They were probably just involved in the restoration, much like the silent films. I'm fairly certain the rights are with ITV, so if a U.K. disc is coming it'll be from them or (more likely) Network.

That was much ado about nothing. My wife (who isn't an English native speaker) didn't have any more trouble with that than usual. Shame that that adaptation wasn't up to much either.

It'll be interesting to see what Cohen cooks up in terms of extras to compete with the MoCs. I think this label is producing some of the best intelligent extras on the market, so I fully expect to be wooed to many a double-dip

I'm generally pro-Cohen and they've been doing a good job with their French releases in particular, but man Two Men in Manhattan's interview between IV and Rosenbaum is poorly done-- the two are filmed sitting in director high chairs and Rosenbaum is balancing a paperback about Melville on his lap while the two exchange non-insights. The opening discussion prompt is, I kid you not, "Who in your opinion is the hero of this film?" I wouldn't even open my high school film studies classes with that! It didn't help that I found the film awful besides (I've seen nearly every Melville film and this is way down at the bottom with no real competition)

I actually appreciated Rosenbaum plugging Vincendeau's book here and making it a part of the conversation - it's not only the best Melville book out there but one of the best director studies, period, and a lot of the talking points are taken directly from it so it seems a stroke of honesty for him to have it on hand. I think it's a decent conversation, hardcore Melville fans probably won't learn much but I could see it being pretty informative for your casual cinephile who maybe took a chance on the release and for whom, say, the Melville-Resistance connection is less than obvious.

I like the movie, it's certainly slight but clearly personal and dripping with atmosphere. When You Read This Letter must be the one you've never seen - the only truly bad movie Melville made imo.
