Fantastic news indeed! I backed it early on and had a sinking feeling until the last couple of days that it was not gonna make it.

A friend of mine is working on getting a lost film titled "An Aleutian Adventure" (from the late-20s) onto DVD and Blu-ray. Here's the Kickstarter:

In her third book as an author, Kier-La Janisse (HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN) explores the intersection of Southern Gothic, ritual masculinity and second wave feminism in Monte Hellman's 1974 film COCKFIGHTER with a combination of cultural criticism and production history, while also examining in detail the Charles Willeford novel and the controversial bloodsport that inspired it.

Perks include copies of the book autographed by Hellman and Roger Corman, plus belt buckles and a Warren Oates tote!
First draft complete. Tentatively due for the film's 50th anniversary in July.

That may have to be changed unless Hellman signed copies of a makeshift book cover prior to his passing?

There's an update from 2019 on that page that has a picture of "Roger Corman's signature panel," so it's possible they both signed bookplates.

Also important to note that this is their second highest earning Kickstarter in under a day and is on track to become their highest.

Alex Cox has a new Kickstarter for My Last Movie.
My "last movie" is a Western version of Nicolai Gogol's "Dead Souls". This is a great book, full of irony, mystery and meaning. I plan to shoot in two locations – Almería, Spain, and Tucson, Arizona.
[…] In some ways my last movie is a classic European or “Spaghetti” Western. But it’s other things too. It’s a celebration of the tenacity of its protagonist, of Gogol's novel, and of the fantastic landscapes of Tucson and Tabernas… As with some of my other films, there is both humour and politics. Plus weirdness.
[…] So please, if you enjoyed "Repo Man" or "Straight to Hell" or "Walker", consider backing a "last movie" in the same vein. Cheers!

I haven't kept up with his films (the last one I saw was Three Businessmen which I found very charming) so I didn't realize he got the idea to have his film students at the University of Colorado Boulder make a film that was indeed financed via Kickstarter. (Cox is credited as the director, but note how there's also quite a few co-directors!)

Cox is very much a professor in the vein of Ken Kesey, who published a novel in collaboration with several dozen of his University of Oregon students

He gets free VFX shots from Phil Tippett, and he contributed voice work to Tippett’s stunning Mad God

So Alex Cox's Kickstarter is doing relatively well. It still has 2 weeks to go and passed its original goal within a week. Some stretch goals have been listed, with the furthest out of reach being an animated sequence by Phil Tippett.
Get on it and help there be more Tippett animation in the world!
(the same goal was originally for a cameo by Gianni Garko but maybe that didn't work out)

Sun Ra / Afrofuturism documentary Door of the Cosmos is funded with two days left to keep surpassing the goal. "Our Kickstarter goal is the absolute minimum we need for the narrative portion of the film. The hope is to surpass our goal to begin producing some of the more high-concept cinematic vignettes and original photography we have planned to fulfill the vision of an immersive aural/visual theatrical experience."

Dinah Washington's family has been trying to preserve her legacy, including a photo exhibit celebrating her centennial at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (The exhibit is now open and free to the public from September 6th - 26th.) However, they've been trying to raise funds to cover the cost of photo licensing, and it looks like they were able to continue to fundraise for a little bit longer even though the exhibit has just started. As of this writing, they're a little over halfway to their goal. FWIW, Washington (like most recording artists in her day) didn't get much in terms of royalties and her back catalog pretty much earns nothing for her family, so this is definitely a passion project for them.

Looks like they reached their goal thanks to a big 11th hour contribution from Steven Soderbergh. (Some other familiar contributors: Michael Mann, Clive Davis, Walter Hill...)

I wish there was a compendium of Sun Ra writings. He wrote books which were mainly available via mail order (always ahead of his time!) plus poetry, chants, lyrics. Wrote on many topics, especially philosophy, metaphysics, history. A Sun Ra Reader would be very interesting.

The Phantom Planet (this film alongside fellow MST3K-riffed film Eegah probably most notable for featuring a pre-fame Richard Kiel) recently made its goal for a Blu-Ray 3D release, which interests me purely in how a film (especially a film such as this one) is getting a 3D conversion in 2025.

The Cloud Door is a boutique home video label & film licensing service with a focus on South Asian & diasporic cinemas. It was founded by UK-based film programmers Ranjit S. Ruprai & Omar Ahmed.

Pre-Order Link for their first release, Om-Dar-B-Dar:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tc ... nd-extras/
Kamal Swaroop's Om Dar-B-Dar is one of Indian cinema's most influential cult films of the modern era, celebrated for its strange storytelling and surrealist style. Released in 1988, the film employs a nonlinear narrative and absurdist elements to satirise mythology, politics, and philosophy. Its unique blend of humour, fantasy, and social commentary, along with its experimental approach to filmmaking, has earned it a dedicated cult following. Despite its initial lack of commercial release in India, over time and through subterranean networks Om Dar-B-Dar gained international acclaim and was eventually recognised as a masterpiece of Indian parallel cinema.
The project has the full support of director Kamal Swaroop who has been very generous with his time and assistance.

They said this in response to the high price of their first release:
'This initial release comes at a higher cost to ensure top quality, but with your support we can lower costs for future projects. Your backing will cover startup expenses, establish a lasting label, and deliver an exceptional experience for collectors and film lovers'

I received my Blu-ray of Where to Land from the Kickstarter campaign, and I am happy to report that the film is an absolute delight, and one of Hal Hartley's very best. Catch it in the theater if you can!
