Fantastic news indeed! I backed it early on and had a sinking feeling until the last couple of days that it was not gonna make it.
First draft complete. Tentatively due for the film's 50th anniversary in July.Cash Flagg wrote: Tue May 29, 2018 3:05 pm Kier-La Janisse's upcoming book on Monty Hellman's Cockfighter
In her third book as an author, Kier-La Janisse (HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN) explores the intersection of Southern Gothic, ritual masculinity and second wave feminism in Monte Hellman's 1974 film COCKFIGHTER with a combination of cultural criticism and production history, while also examining in detail the Charles Willeford novel and the controversial bloodsport that inspired it.
Perks include copies of the book autographed by Hellman and Roger Corman, plus belt buckles and a Warren Oates tote!
That may have to be changed unless Hellman signed copies of a makeshift book cover prior to his passing?Perks include copies of the book autographed by Hellman and Roger Corman, plus belt buckles and a Warren Oates tote!
Also important to note that this is their second highest earning Kickstarter in under a day and is on track to become their highest.Ashirg wrote: Tue Feb 27, 2024 12:24 am ALEKSANDR PTUSHKO FANTASTIKA BOX by Deaf Crocodile got fully funded within 2 hours. I wish they can also release Sadko.
My "last movie" is a Western version of Nicolai Gogol's "Dead Souls". This is a great book, full of irony, mystery and meaning. I plan to shoot in two locations – Almería, Spain, and Tucson, Arizona.
[…] In some ways my last movie is a classic European or “Spaghetti” Western. But it’s other things too. It’s a celebration of the tenacity of its protagonist, of Gogol's novel, and of the fantastic landscapes of Tucson and Tabernas… As with some of my other films, there is both humour and politics. Plus weirdness.
[…] So please, if you enjoyed "Repo Man" or "Straight to Hell" or "Walker", consider backing a "last movie" in the same vein. Cheers!
Cox is very much a professor in the vein of Ken Kesey, who published a novel in collaboration with several dozen of his University of Oregon studentshearthesilence wrote: Sat Jun 15, 2024 7:43 pm I haven't kept up with his films (the last one I saw was Three Businessmen which I found very charming) so I didn't realize he got the idea to have his film students at the University of Colorado Boulder make a film that was indeed financed via Kickstarter. (Cox is credited as the director, but note how there's also quite a few co-directors!)
Looks like they reached their goal thanks to a big 11th hour contribution from Steven Soderbergh. (The exhibit is now open and free to the public from September 6th - 26th.) However, they've been trying to raise funds to cover the cost of photo licensing, and it looks like they were able to continue to fundraise for a little bit longer even though the exhibit has just started. As of this writing, they're a little over halfway to their goal. FWIW, Washington (like most recording artists in her day) didn't get much in terms of royalties and her back catalog pretty much earns nothing for her family, so this is definitely a passion project for them.

Kamal Swaroop's Om Dar-B-Dar is one of Indian cinema's most influential cult films of the modern era, celebrated for its strange storytelling and surrealist style. Released in 1988, the film employs a nonlinear narrative and absurdist elements to satirise mythology, politics, and philosophy. Its unique blend of humour, fantasy, and social commentary, along with its experimental approach to filmmaking, has earned it a dedicated cult following. Despite its initial lack of commercial release in India, over time and through subterranean networks Om Dar-B-Dar gained international acclaim and was eventually recognised as a masterpiece of Indian parallel cinema.
The project has the full support of director Kamal Swaroop who has been very generous with his time and assistance.

'This initial release comes at a higher cost to ensure top quality, but with your support we can lower costs for future projects. Your backing will cover startup expenses, establish a lasting label, and deliver an exceptional experience for collectors and film lovers'
