So friends. Months ago I purchased a used copy of Contempt that was banged all to hell - discs and booklet and cover in fine condition, but the Double Alpha case it was in didn't shut! The guy sold it to me as "Good" and I left him negative feedback. ANYWAYS I need a replacement Double Alpha case - and coincidentally, as I was going through my other Double Alphas looking for manufacturing information, I realized that I had OTHERS that were broken or had wrinkly plastic. All Criterions. So now I need SIX Double Alphas, and the only site that I've found that even knows what these are requires an order of 60 at a time. One dollar a piece. No thanks.

So where can I go online to find these? Any help?

Thank God Criterion stopped using that nightmare of a case. I don't think I have more than two that are serviceable (and the cover to Solaris doesn't fit the full case, so I moved that to a single case with a tray for the second disc; the art doesn't look that bad stuffed into a single, while the other covers wouldn't even fit).

Can't help you with a source for replacements, but in my experience, these cases often look broken but are not. The middle piece of the case can be popped back into place onto the spine via a couple of interlocking plastic tabs. And you can often smooth out the wrinkled plastic with a hair dryer.

I'll try the hair dryer trick, but the Contempt one (which I already tossed) was missing chunks of hard plastic, and the clear plastic looked like it was chewed on by a dog. Other than that, my copy of In the Mood for Love is missing a booklet clip. The rest are just wrinkle problems. That brings me down to two replacement cases needed.

Do you just blow the hair dryer at the plastic or do you need to flatten and smooth it out with your hands or something else?

I usually just pull it taut with one hand as I aim the dryer toward it (always moving the dryer slightly so that the plastic doesn't actually melt). It doesn't make it perfect, but it smooths out a lot of the really bad wrinkles.

Where did you even find the Double Alpha cases? I couldn't find them on any website when I was recently looking for them. They've been discontinued for a while now. Criterion couldn't even point me in the right direction when I contacted them about a replacement case for my copy of "F For Fake." I ended up having to buy a used copy of the original "Big Trouble In Little China" for like $3.99 just for the case.

Agreed, it's a ridiculous film, I love it, but I wonder if they'd actually ever release it. I thought his son was arranging to put it out at some point.

well not just us, but facebook and other forums as well. but I get the feeling it's more along the lines of it's been assigned to someone and they are working on different options but we have to slap something on the retail notice so someone photoshop something we can use this morning kind of thing. The Thin Red Line abomination had a similar feel...just something an assistant did in an hour to put on the release they had to send out that day.

FYI, i wasn't talking about the blu-ray packaging, that's old news, but the DVD packaging.
