The Sam Neill news is shocking and incredibly sad. We'd interviewed him towards the end of May for a forthcoming release (which has yet to be announced) and all was well. A remarkable person and a remarkable career.

Can anyone think of anything else besides Dead Calm? (Just asking, not dismissing the film which I like)

Dead Calm seems likely. I don't think it's even had a UK Blu release. Memoirs of an Invisible Man is also Warner Bros. and seems like the kind of thing Arrow would want to rehabilitate.

Paramount has already released Event Horizon on UHD in both the US and UK. (I'm also not sure what the last new Paramount licensed title Arrow has released, as most seem to be just UK ports of titles previously released by Arrow in the US.)

I reckon Dead Calm, as it's with Warner Bros and therefore would be the most straightforward. Even better would obviously be an Omen box set but that'd have to go through Disney at this point, so far less likely.

Great news either way. I was very saddened to hear about Sam Neill's passing as he had consistently been one of my favourite actors across my journey through cinephilia.

James Flower confirmed in a podcast that they're doing the entire Chinese Ghost Story trilogy in 4K. Color correction was already confirmed months ago to reinstate the night time filter missing from the Shout release of the first film.

If they're doing Halloween, I'd really like a standalone of the first film. No interest at all in the rest, including the third.

And if it's all out horror in October, maybe we finally get Pulse.

Somebody on BR.com received a sticker of The Wild Bunch inside their copy of The Outfit, so take that as a soft announcement. Brilliant! I wonder if it'll be US-only, or they'll brave the BBFC waiving the previously enforced 10 seconds of cuts...

That's a bummer James as i was hoping for a new release as the blu-ray is so old now i think it's time for a refresh.

That's a shame, and pretty sad that some people are coming up with new ways to mess with other people's anticipation. Criterion will do a decent job, assuming they have it, but I'm sure you would've done a truly definitive release (as we got for Alfredo Garcia)!

Interesting, two of the announcements today have been UK-exclusive Paramount licenses (Cujo, The Monster Squad). I wonder if Arrow might be able to bring The Keep and Explorers to the UK, or even better, Days of Heaven and The Parallax View? Won't get too excited in case they're not possible for a variety of reasons, but I guess we'll find out soon enough...

PS: I believe 88 Films vaguely teased they might have The Tenant, for those interested in that title.

I have the Imprint disc, so I do own a copy, but as it's a favourite I want the 4K. But yes, I know if I cave and just get the Criterion US 4K, they'll finally announce it for the UK. I just find it especially bizarre that they re-released it theatrically a couple of years ago and still didn't release a UK disc.

FWIW, I also want DAYS OF HEAVEN 4K to come from a great UK or German label. The Criterion 4K is certainly a decent disc, but I'd love to see a 4K with a more robust encode that isn't low-pass filtered, plus a new Blu-Ray sourced from the 4K remaster.

You have such an unhealthy obsession with negligible encoding differences. Just be satisfied that there’s a decent disc to begin with.

One would argue that on a market where the quality of restorations isn't really an issue anymore, properly porting stuff over to video would be, well, one of the core skills looked for on a home video release, but I guess "decent" is instead where the bar is at.

I suppose that's why we keep seeing what we see 10 years into UHD and 20 years into BD, but why should labels bother.
