We'll always have Hollis Frampton.

We could almost have a math-on-the-chalkboard-themed vote:
Rushmore
Amarcord
Straw Dogs
Are there more?

The Painlevé set has some 4th dimensional equations on a blackboard in one of the shorts, I believe

Didn't 400 blows have some math, or am I thinking of another young school kid film? Au Revoir Les Enfants, maybe?

Clearly we need to ask for Crit to release some Eames films.

What New Release do you want to discuss?

This discussion will run from Jan. 6 - 20. This list was chosen randomly from the list of new releases for 2013 to coincide with our annual end-of-the-year Criterion vote. The poll ends at this time Wednesday.
Again, you can change your vote at any time during the poll's run, so do something besides vote once and leave, I guess.

Given that the whole reason the vote was moved up was so members could take advantage of the BN sale, good job selecting Quai des..., an OOP title going for above the list price used (I already have it, I'm not complaining, just observing)

I noticed Miss Julie, for unknown reasons, is not half off on B&N.

Though I'd personally really like to see a discussion here of La Notte or any of these titles. I thought I would just mention that The Suitor is my favorite of the Etaix feature films, and while its not as ambitious as Yoyo, I think it's got his overall best gag work.
Just in case anyone was interested in voting for something on the Etaix set, but wasn't sure if they wanted to vote for this particular Etaix film. (A situation I'm currently in regarding the Zatoichi and Kobayashi, in case there are any big fans of these particular films out there.)

Yes, a lot of great gags, and a good introduction to the director as well.

Initially I voted for Kobayashi, but considering the two in the lead, I'd prefer to discuss La Notte and actually get to engage in an Antonioni discussion, which I haven't gotten to participate in yet.

It's the Film Club Oscar vote!

Timed for Oscar season, 2014, here's a list of films generated randomly from the Oscar nominees in the collection. Discussion will be from Jan. 20 - Feb. 3.
As ever, you have three days to vote and can change your vote at any time up to that point.

All good films, none particularly under-discussed, but I'm going for Anatomy of a Murder (until I change my mind).

Great choices from the possible list of noms I culled together for this random assortment! I have to go with the Last Picture Show, obv, but wouldn't cry if Rebecca ended up taking it

My vote is up for sale! I voted for Z, because it's about time I saw it, but it's also about time I saw The Last Picture Show as well. If anyone wants to give me a compelling reason to switch (or stay!) now's your chance. It won't take much, just convince me that one movie will be better for conversation than another and you've got yourself a deal!

I too am hoping to watch Z for the first time. I'm enjoying the part of film club where I'm forced to watch a new film for the first time, so I think you already have a reason to vote for Z!

Watch Bogdanovich and I'll give you back your turtle, alive and well

You've never seen The Last Picture Show? You false father, I will no longer submit to your moderative authority!
If you want to reclaim the warm sinewy grip of power, you'll change your vote...
