So according to this the film did have a small screening at telluride for distributors and will definitely not be released this year. The final cut supposedly came in 2 hours and 15 minutes, maybe we will get an extended cut down the road?

It seems likely, given that there were reports that he first prepared a version closer to three hours before creating this 135 minute cut, as well as the quote from Mike Fink last year that two different cuts (of differing lengths) of the film were being prepared.

I get the impression that Malick does not want to limit the accessibility of his pictures through runtime, but likes to leave the door open to viewing an extended version for those who actually enjoy his work and wish to delve deeper into it. Plus, rather than being forced to commit to certain editorial choices by producing only one cut, preparing multiple versions of his films allows him to indulge his desire to experiment with the pros and cons of different ways they can 'flow'.

Calling it now: if Searchlight release this in a gradual 'roll-out' pattern, it will set a new record for per-theater average box-office in its first weekend. This is probably the most anticipated 'limited release' film of all time.

I would really like to see a trailer for this before the end of the damn calendar year, if not earlier. I mean, seriously, give us a break. Or, at the very least, some isolated footage, like the ShowWest (?) clip from Eyes Wide Shut. Something, Jesus Aitch Kryst! It's not annoying any more, it's not funny any more, it's not absurd any more -- it's just a profound failure bordering on offensive. Yes, I know people are starving, people are killing people, all the pain and suffering in the World, blah blah blah... But a little clip from this film might remedy all that! Believe it! Give it to us, brothers! I need a hot Malick injection right about now -- IT'S BEEN SIX YEARS FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!

Only six years? Can't be the record yet, must wait a bit longer.

Rumors about the project broke about four years ago. At that time, it was going to be filmed in India, and was to star Mel Gibson and Colin Farrell. It didn't actually start filming until March of 2008, and Malick turned in his "final" cut about six weeks ago. The total production time of two and a half years was only slightly longer than Days of Heaven. The only reason it's not out yet is that its original distributor disintegrated.

I beg your pardon, it's been six years since The New World was released (and, if you wanna get technical, this project more or less appears to be Q which has been rumored for almost three decades.)

Meanwhile, Bill Pohland is having Malick orgies at his Minnesota home. Sigh.

It's only been 4 years and 9 months since TNW was released, actually. (12/25/05)

I beg your pardon, it's been said Tree of Life will hit in 2011 (likely late in the year). Even if it's released in the spring, that's 5 1/2 years.

Anyway, the film does not exist, does it?

I think us Victor Erice fans could teach you Malick whippersnappers a thing or two about patience and frustration.

I had a dream about watching this, and the twist is that is a zombie movie.

Oh man, that would be fucking priceless. A Terrence Malick zombie flick would be too good.

Zombies, Dinosaurs, the life of the Universe, whatever the hell Malick decides to put in there, I'm still seeing the film Day 1.

"Day 1" ?

Don't you mean "The Last Day of the Universe" when the thing is actually released?

We'll probably see his Bennifer romance and his Jerry Lee Lewis flick (the fuck?!) before we see Tree.

I take it that's the portal through which the space vampires enter our dimension?

This is by far one of the strangest threads on this board (yes, incl. IANG) - i mean, look at these idiotic and meaningless photos posted above. In Germany there is saying "Blöd in die Röhre gucken" that could be translated as "looking stupid into the tube" (Tube=TV…). Seeing (into) the above "door" matches the "tube" perfectly...hahahaha

This is all starting to make sense. The vampires attempt to prey upon a trio of plucky, winsome sorority girls, but much to their surprise, find themselves falling prey...to love! Ironically, this still results in them all getting laid. As a result, one of the girls soon finds herself in the family way, spawning...

Hold on though, can vampires mating with human women sire children? [consults Twilight Almanac] Yes. Yes, they can.

Oh, come on, I thought 'directed by Terrence Malick' basically implied that.
