Now we'll get to pay a Criterion price for Sexy Beast without the Criterion treatment.

The Film4 edition of Sexy Beast is good, though region-locked. It's also a hell of a lot cheaper thanTwilight Time will be.

I was expecting a Criterion of this as well and am VERY shocked it went to TT. I have the DVD, which is fine, so I think I'll pass or get the edition willoneill mentioned. Unfortunately, I think my wife wants Sleepless in Seattle (I've just realized I've bought more of these titles for her than I have for myself.)

I was very impressed with both the film and the quality of the transfer of the Film4 HD DVD. This may be one of the TT releases that I'll skip.

I've not seen the disc myself, but according to the specs the Film4 disc is 1080i, lossy audio and "opened up" to 1.78:1 from the original Super35 2.35:1 OAR

That doesn't sound like a very good disc to me...

The Blu-ray is 1080i while the HD DVD is 1080p. Both are 1.78:1 though and my understanding is that the DTS-HR used on both is lossy.

The HD DVD specs from the AVS forum:
Title: (EU) Sexy Beast (HD DVD)
Video Codec: VC-1
Length: 1:28:12
Feature size: 17,720,993,792
Disc size: ~18,878,123,185
Total Bitrate: 26.78 Mbps
Video Bitrate: 23.66 Mbps
Audio Codec: DTS-HR 5.1 (48 kHz/24-bit)
Audio Bitrate: 2046 Kbps

Worth noting that Sleepless in Seattle is yet another Sony title that's getting a regular retail release in Germany. (This makes four by my count--the others are As Good as It Gets, The Blue Lagoon, and Philadelphia, which isn't up for pre-order yet but is due out on June 13th). For Sleepless you'd pay €15.60 ($20) with Amazon's cheapest shipping to the U.S., which is $15 less than TT wants. Absolutely ridiculous.

How do you make one of the most beautiful films ever look so ugly.

It's a good job it's not called "LEAVE HEAVEN TO HER" cos "HEAVEN" would go right across her head.

That font is so wrong I actually laughed out loud. I didn't know a font could do that.

These releases yearn to be in cardboard bins at Best Buy and Walmart. Won't someone please deposit them there?

Is this that movie where Gene Tierney plays a Miami bayou PI, solving crimes from the comfort of her river raft?

They should have added explosions near the horizon.
No sale.

Most labels would not be willing to color-adjust/filter the cover art for a film best known for its use of color, but Twilight Time like Degrassi goes there

It appears that their art direction leaned toward making it look like a Basic Instinct or Dead Calm or What Lies Beneath knock-off complete with that spectacularly inappropriate "modern thriller" font. Actually, it kind of looks like an episode of CSI Miami. I'm guessing that whoever designed the art either hasn't seen Leave Her To Heaven or doesn't get why people would want to buy it in the first place.

Also is it so hard for Bluray covers featuring Tierney to make her look like herself. She looks very different in the real shot.Amazing what a crappy filter will do.

FYI, from their FB page:

Update: we have found the new master [for Violent Saturday], which was created recently, and so we will be doing a blu-ray of this title in the not too distant future...

Also, it turns out the culprit in holding up one of my orders was That Obscure Object of Desire. Fortunately SAE was kind enough to cancel that one item and ship the remainder of my order (Christine, Bell Book and Candle, The Big Heat, Cyrano de Bergerac). I'm not sure why it would be so difficult for them to get That Obscure Object of Desire as it seems readily available at other retailers, but there it is.

It was lost?

Also, that Leave Her to Heaven art is awful, and I usually don't complain about covers.

I love how Twilight Time has only three things to do: Isolated Score, Liner Notes and Cover Art, and they manage to routinely screw up one of them.

And just to rant further, I'm really pissed that they got Sexy Beast and Body Double. Sexy Beast is only thirteen years old for Christ's sake, and Fox could easily have released it themselves in May to cash in on Kingsley's role in Iron Man 3--now I'll have to pray it gets a stellar edition somewhere else.

Yeah, they probably found it in the bin where Carlotta Films tossed it after they beat them to this by a not too distant distance!

I wonder if they "found" the Boston Strangler masters as well though, and if they're going to port the Friedkin intros? Except who cares, as importing the Carlottas will probably still end up being cheaper

We're very happy to say this is scheduled on TT for later this year. One of our all-time favorites!
From TT, in reference to Oliver! (1968) over on HTF

Does she do anything in the movie besides drift around in a lake in that exact pose?
