Just one person's opinion, but Bogdanovich does nothing for me while Z is still one of the most powerful "political films" of all time precisely because it deconstructs the possibilities of the "political film" as it appears within dominant film forms and, both literally and allegorically (through form), demonstrates the limited possibility of politics within institutional political frameworks.

If Z wins, I certainly hope you'll make a longer post!

Or just post in the Z thread.

Mr. Sausage - Any film that puts me and Domino on the same page has to be worthy of further consideration...

Four hours to the deadline and we're currently at a tie. I'm not running this vote again, so I suggest all of you who voted for something that isn't going to win switch your vote and break the tie.

Sorry if I missed it, but did you ever post the outcomes of the "what should swo's random number generator include?" poll? I know the poll is there for all to see, but I don't really understand how the results are calculated- no option seems to have gotten 50%, but we still had the OOP Quai des Orfevres as a candidate. Which of those options are currently being included in the polls?

Swo and I used that mainly to help us to decide what to include in the random number generator. The poll didn't, in itself, determine anything like our film choice polls do.
But basically, OOPs and essential art house stuff are in.

Are we finishing the film votes for the time being? We've certainly banked a good number at this point.

Yep. After we get through the current batch we'll go back to the bi-weekly format. I only banked a bunch so that members could take advantage of the current B&N sale.
Sloper presents: the next Film Club vote!

As thanks for his superlative contributions to the film club, we've asked Sloper to curate this vote.
You know the drill. Vote away!

Picked Identification of a Woman since 1, I already have it and haven't seen it, and 2, it'll count towards the then-in-progress 80s List, so I'll actually be motivated to watch it.

Great picks, Sloper. I went with The Last Command as it is my favorite film in that set, absolutely brilliant, and we haven't discussed a silent film yet.

Browning Version for me, as I've been meaning to see that one for a while.

Even though I'm horrible at participating in these with the limited time I have to watch classic films lately, y'all should see The Browning Version and I voted for that.

I was thinking 'doomed, ageing men', but those are all good.
In all honesty, I just picked the films I most wanted to see discussed, but I am slightly worried at the consistency here...

We almost just had a Film Club discussion about the Film Club nominees.

I voted for Identification of a Woman because it's the only one I own that I haven't seen yet, but one part of me wants to rewatch The Music Room because it's haunted me since I first saw it, and another part of me wants The Browning Version or the Sternberg to win so I have an excuse to buy those sets. I also like Ozu, so I really can't go wrong here. Nice picks!

I voted for the Music Room because I really need to get around to watching it. But I also wouldn't mind re-watching and discussing either The Last Command or The Browning Version at all. I may switch my vote later though.
