Does anyone know if the Walter Reade Theater has a bag policy?
They may check what's inside before you go in, but that's about it. How big is the bag?

A normal sized book bag. I’m hoping to just go from the theatre to my train on the last night, so it’d be helpful to not have to pay to park it at that place near Penn Station

Have had good experiences with services like
BagBNB, if you want an inexpensive place to keep it

I’m pretty sure they don’t check bags. Haven’t been there in a little while, but don’t recall bag checks.
Domino, What are you seeing?

Thank you everyone for the confirmations! Don't worry, if I run into any problems, you're all banned

Oh they definitely check the bags of curators.

I could immediately tell this was a foolish question given at least a third of the audience last night had big bags! At least I don’t have to mess with checking it on my last day

Not foolish at all as WR does occasionally check bags.

The Walter Reade was searching bags for a while after the November 2015 Paris attacks. I had to turn around and get my ticket refunded for a screening in the Seijun Suzuki retro after some security goon wanted to rummage around in my dinner. I think they have since knocked it off, though.

Super-niche pet peeve: MoMA has gotten into the habit of announcing screenings for T1 (the big theater with the good sightlines) when the calendars first go up, and then demoting them to T2 (the small theater with the lousy sightlines) or even T3 (which I can never even remember how to get to, and end up stumbling around like a tourist trying to find) a week or so before the screening.

I’ve been going to New York several times a month for 12yrs now. I don’t remember any theater checking bags.
I have encountered that problem with MoMA though. Even worse, just about anyone with a museum pass can wander into the theater, and leave like it’s just some exhibit. So you’ll constantly get noise and light let into the theater...

It's probably changed since, but MoMA definitely had a bag policy in the immediate aftermath of the Aurora, Colorado shooting. I remember going there the following day and seeing signs posted for it.

When I was there in 2015 just to see the museum I got very aggressively turned away from the theater wing by an employee when I just wanted to look and see what was playing without going inside.

I made it out for only the second time since Film Forum's reopening and as someone who liked the dilapidated conditions it's pretty annoying that they went through all the trouble of a renovation to only not increase leg room.
