Yeah that's true. I remember working at Barnes & Noble back in the day and some people buying discs and boxsets at full price. I just tend to forget that now asI definitely look for bargains on everything.

But I'd agree if anyone has an unopened one I'd suggest sell it and get a new set in February.

Would assume that barring a surprise restock, value is only going to go up closer to Christmas, and perhaps even after.

It's not a question of not being a bargain hunter, but not to pay silly money as if it was a definitely sold out product but it's not. This isn't something we don't know if it will be back in stock : it will and we even know when. Why would you then shelf out $400 to get one if you wouldn't shelf out $150-300 to pre-order it in the first place ? This is just silly.

But hey, if people have money to burn this way... (though I wish they give it to a charity - or me - instead).

However, I can understand factoring Christmas in if you really wanted to offer it to someone and now you're stuck with this OOS status.

Absolutely. But otherwise, it seems like paying a lot more while we already know it's going to come back in a few months. And it's paying even more if you didn't care enough to bother ordering it at 50% off.

I would think that anyone not wanting to wait would have preordered from Amazon or B&N for 50% off, though I guess some of those orders may have fallen through

Bear in mind that people may be listing them for insane prices, but buyers may not be buying.

I mean, I've been trying to sell my brand new, sealed (!!1ONE!) DVD of M. Hulot's Holiday for ages on feebay for the low, low routine price of $40, and no one (for some reason) is biting on it. I can dare to dream, though.

You can see recently sold listings for an item, which reveals people are in fact buying them at this price

Those of you who have not gone through the set my want to check their discs. My set contained 2 disc 22s and no disc 24. There are several other people on blu-ray.com reporting similar issues of missing/duplicate discs. Sent an email to Criterion inquiring about a replacement disc.

I started having a look at the differences between the individual releases booklets and the boxset book. I don't have all individual Bergman BD releases, and won't be able to compare Scenes from a Marriage, The Virgin Spring and Sawdust and Tinsel. However, I have the other ones. From what I gathered so far :

- Same content : The Seventh Seal, Autumn Sonata, Wild Strawberries, Cries and Whispers.
- Possible rewriting : Summer Interlude (paired with another movie, but the essay's title is the same so maybe there isn't much difference between the 2 versions)
- Less content in the book : The Magician (booklet contains also a text by Olivier Assayas), Smiles of a Summer Night (booklet contains also an article by Pauline Kael), Summer With Monika (booklet also contains a text by Godard and an ITW of Bergman by himself which I don't think is in the book), Persona (booklet also contains a Bergman ITW and a Bibi Andersson ITW).

I haven't checked yet F&A.

I'll try to test if I can just put the individual discs I plan to keep in plastic sleeves and place them somewhere in the boxset "disc book" and see if I can still close it. There are only 4 discs I plan to insert this way so it shouldn't be too thick.

Mine has repeated disc 26 (Autumn sonata) and 28 (Fanny and Alexander) is missing. What a mess! I hope not to have to send the whole heavy pack from Spain for a single disc, in addition, assuming the costly shipping and customs. I'm very sad!!!! Please, check your packs.

In cases like these, I'm sure they would just send out whichever replacement discs they need to

Apparently there've been quite a few similar cases, so I'm sure you're right.

Are there any examples of mis-labelling rather than missing numbers or duplication? I have every number in consecutive order but would hate to put on number 29 in 2023 and find I have another copy of All these women instead of the Making of Fanny and Alexander

Even if you discovered an issue in 5 years, I should think that Criterion would still help to resolve the issue at that time, even if the set has gone OOP in the interim. (They still offer replacements for Pierrot le fou, for instance.)
