Very sad. I saw him give a solo performance once that was absolutely spellbinding, including the piece he performed on a single high-hat (and its stand). A giant.

I wonder if Martin Hannett's (oversized) coffin was numbered?

It wasn't. Hannett and Wilson had long since fallen out at that point. The lawsuit he filed against Factory was FAC 61, though.

It is being reported (though only on internet forums at this time) that Oscar-winning actress Miyoshi Umeki died on August 29.

That is sad for everyone who loves Opera and Classical music in general. It is time for a better DVD version of that first 3 Tenors concert in Caracalla. The current DVD sucks.

I'm perfectly content listening to his recordings from the 60s and the early 70s.

Yeah, I know. :( But his 'Recondita Armonia' on that concert it's like... my favorite ever. Based on what? I don't know. I wouldn't know how to rate that in classical-serious terms, but I do like that first concert a lot. I wouldn't say that I'd watch the whole thing, but there are some brilliant moments in it.

Wow; I just watched "All that Heaven Allows" last night. Strange coincidence.

She was also wonderful in her other Sirk collaboration, the underrated Magnificent Obsession. It really is a shame that she's known today mostly as "Ronald Reagan's first wife."

I don't know if it's her death alone or the cumulative effect of losing so many of my heroes and role models this year, but I feel like I have lost a member of my family. According to a couple of obituaries on the web, she was suffering from stomach and colon cancer, something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I'm glad she is at rest now.

Most will only remember her from Match Game, but look at what a hot model she was back in the '50s. I love how Playbill, in their obituary, refer to her as "the salty television and stage actress who is best remembered as a tart-tongued panelist on the game show 'The Match Game.'" There was no one saltier!
