Eli must have been referring to no scripts for the trailers. The script for "Death Proof" is available at your local Borders.

It's worth a look if for no other reason than to show that L'il Quentin doesn't right good dialogue for female characters.

Since Death Proof is going to continue the downward spiral I hope Quentin refuses to start on a round of TV appearances to try to pump it up ... but on the other hand as he becomes more panicked and manic it may give some clues to import questions like "Does he have Asperger's Syndrome"

Although I enjoyed the Grindhouse, I am also glad that it was a box-office failure. Why?

Because Mickey Rourke opted out of it and he should look good for doing so now that the film has lost money! I am his biggest fan in the world and proud to say it! Producers may look at his decision as indicating his intelligence and not what they used to think of him...as "box-office poison".

He should've done Grindhouse as a thank you to RR revitalizing his career in Sin City.

Judging from his statements, Rourke's dropping out of "Death Proof" may not have been his choice. Anyway, I seem to recall Rourke being quoted as saying he would do anything for Tony Scott and Rodriguez. Last I checked, Quentin Tarantino was not Robert Rodriguez.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the Weinsteins were talking up the idea of a shorter Grindhouse entry at Cannes. The description sounded similar to what Roth says he's been pitching recently, which was a double-feature running just two hours. I'm guessing they want to know if a "Thanksgiving"/"Don't" package is still possible. They did not mention anything about Rodriguez' projects, even though he was present and Planet Terror was not. Who the hell knows what that means for Sin City 2 or Machete.

Meanwhile, rumors persist that Rodriguez may follow Barbarella with Land of the Lost. Good lord, Weinsteins, what did you say to the man? Has one failed franchise discounted the previous four that he brought you? The longer this explanation blackout continues, the more I'm going to assume the worst has happened.

Being a major Kurt Russell fan, I probably wouldn't have liked Death Proof nearly as much if he wasn't in it.

Wow... a grindhouse/exploitation list where the people seem to have some idea what there talking about.

Erm, let's be clear, that list is written by Tim Lucas of Video Watchdog - it just happens to be published in Sight & Sound. The British staff wouldn't know where to start with such a list.

At least they had the sense not try it themselves, and get someone who could come up with something worthwhile. Some of these lists I've seen in the last few months seem like the writers haven't seen a exploitation film beyond the obvious.

I saw Foxy Brown first and was disappointed, but Coffy was EXCELLENT.

Saw the extended version of Death Proof last night..I don't know about the american version (would have loved to see the whole thing as original intended),but if you were complaining about that one dragging on dialog you don't want to see this one.
There were some scenes during which I almost wanted to yell "shut up!" at those logorrheic girls.
I like trivial dialog as much as the next guy,but enough is enough! Anyway the lap dance scene (which is basically the only scene I know that was trimmed for sure) has a nice song on the background.

Separately, Eli Roth recently talked to the Rotten Tomatoes web site about getting the Weinsteins interested in a second GRINDHOUSE experience, this time with Roth doing THANKSGIVING and Edgar Wright doing DON'T. The beauty of that to the Weinsteins, who are still scratching their heads at the flop of the first GRINDHOUSE is that both films could be shot on the cheap, the way grindhouse movies are supposed to be, and Roth said he doesn't even need a full script for his: "We have the outline, the story ideas, but part of the fun of GRINDHOUSE is actually not having a script," Roth told the site. "I wouldn't want to write it too detailed. You've just got to work out the kills and then see who's around and grab a camera and have fun."

Eli Roth is an idiot. From what I understand he hasn't even talked to the Weinsteins about anything, he's just giving interviews where he says that it should happen or it is happening to somehow make them interested. Anyone who's followed Hollywood over the last 20 years should know that telling the Weinsteins what they should do and how they should do it doesn't work out well. Anyway, Eli Roth is also claiming that he's taking a year and a half off from filmmaking because he's so mad about Hostel II not doing as well as he thought.

Pretty much..the lap dance wasn't anything special really,but I did like the song which was playing (down in mexico by the coasters).
I know there was a scene in b/w outside the shop (which stressed once again tarantino's foot fetish)which wasn't in the us cut,as for the rest just more trivial dialog which sounded out of place in what was supposed to be an homage to grindhouse flicks.

Can't say about the shortened version,but in this one the dialogue was too forced and far too much (and this coming from somone who can easily watch nixon and jfk director's cut back to back).

I saw this version the other night too. I haven't had the Grindhouse experience either, but now I'm glad. The cinema was already like a sauna and this film dragged so much. It was strange as a lot of it was like girly chit chat from a chick flick but then there was a lot of swearing and gore and shit, does Tarantino know who he's writing for? He was also way to into doing all the grindhouse 'homages' which very quickly became ad nauseum. Also why were the first three girls so ugly? I was ready for some hotness and getting into some real misogyny! Did Hitchcock ever use ugly girls? No. It just doesn't work as good. The whole film just seemed like one big mess with Tarantino like a child in a sandbox.

EDIT: I don't hold much hope for his Come Drink With Me remake, is it not being discussed anywhere?

Umm, at least 2 of the second 4 girls were ugly too.

Awesome song, sexy woman...couldn't ask for much more. As a fan of "Death Proof" even in its 'incomplete' Grindhouse cut (out of the ten 2007 releases I've seen so far, it's my favorite by a wide margin...it's also my favorite QT film, by a wide margin), I look very forward to seeing the full cut.
