KL has been saying that someone else has Midnight for almost two years, which basically confirms it's the company that likes to sit on licenses for years.

Time Out of Mind (1947) seems to be today's announcement from a 2k restoration.

It bears repeating, do not pay attention to Svet's reviews. The Kino UHD has terrible compression and the audio drops out during Siegel's cameo, something that the Arrow BD fixed. Your only option at this point is the Arrow BD as the Shout Factory BD is also poorly compressed. Between this and the Silence of the Lambs UHD, it has now become prudent to wait for reviews with people with technical expertise (not Svet or Gary Tooze or Bill Hunt) and close knowledge of the film in question. It's a pity since Kino's first UHDs were good (Hannibal, Misery, The Good The Bad & The Ugly) but given their stance of taking or leaving it with flawed discs, it's no longer safe to preorder from them.

Fragment of Fear was today's 70s Sony titles announcement.

What are all the people on BR.com going to do if tomorrow's title isn't Carrie? Ideally, Arrow have UK and US rights and give the 4k to Fidelity in Motion/David MacKenzie. We can't rely on Kino to check the masters they get from MGM as the wrong color space on Lambs and the flawed audio on Body Snatchers proved.

Fingers crossed the encode is done well on this one.

Really is a shame that MGM has gone all in with Kino, I just hope that a quality UK label will be interested in releasing some of this stuff on UHD (and are able to license them before Amazon shuts the door.)

It's strange that they couldn't get Blow Out when seemingly everything else that Criterion had released was for the taking.

now very curious to see whether Arrow brings Carrie out on UHD.

Paths of Glory is an interesting pick for Kino because I really wonder what they'll attempt to do for exclusive supplements. Joseph McBride for Some Like it Hot was a nice get but what could they do for PoG beyond the existing Criterion and MOC tracks (both excellent)? really curious

Did Kino Lorber Insider explicitly say they didn't have Blow Out?

Kino said they didn't have Blow Out.

On the Carrie front, Vinegar Syndrome has an MGM deal and said they have a big 70s horror film coming next year on UHD, but what they consider big may not be what everyone else considers big.

The Killing is surely going to be another one in the future, maybe even Kiss Me Deadly. They picked up a fair few 50s MGM UHD licenses.

KLI said "Kiss Me Deadly" was not "big enough" for an UHD (prove them wrong Criterion!).

Was BARRY LYNDON for the taking for a Kino Lorber 4K UHD release?

It's a Warner title so more than likely not.

More OOP based on previously being in the "While Supplies Last" sale and now no longer appearing on the website:

Avanti! (1972) (BD)
Mafia! (aka Jane Austen's Mafia!) (1998) (DVD) (BD previously OOP)

FWIW Avanti! is a really cheap BD in Europe, and the encoding may even be better (albeit negligibly so). I got mine a year ago for less than $10 USD shipped from a German vendor. I forgot why shipping wasn't an issue - maybe it's just cheaper from Germany?

I'd have gone for the Cohen disc of Howard's End if it hadn't been cropped. I got Doc, The Great McGinty and The Good Fairy (Sturges' script and Wyler's direction).

I hadn't seen it before but the BFI article on the 10 essential Sturges films sold me on it, and I can't wait (ditto McGinty). Perhaps the packages will arrive before Christmas still.
