A+ misunderstanding of the film with those copious Kennedy extras

To be fair I think these ridiculous sets are made to take advantage of the massive amount of Kennedy buffs out there.

Also it's the 50th anniversary of the assassination come November 22.
Kinda crass to cash in on it, but it's not exactly the worst thing that goes on in Hollywood.

I'd like to see a Venn diagram of the Kennedy buffs who don't already have a perfectly acceptable to them copy of JFK on DVD/Blu-ray (though I'm guessing standard def predominates with the buff crowd), yet would be persuaded to buy this big box now because, well, anniversary + swag = commemoration.

It likely overlays with the beanie baby collector demographics.

Had "taste" not constrained them, this could have been the Warner-Box to end all Warner-Boxes. Think of the possibilities!
Film cells from the Zapruder footage
A Jack Ruby cap pistol
A David Ferrie toupee (like the one worn by Joe Pesci in the movie)
An "umbrella man" black umbrella (repainted overstock from the Singin' In The Rain box)
A special edition game of Clue that replaces Colonel Mustard, et al. with Fidel Castro, Sam Giancana, E Howard Hunt, etc.
Warner really missed the chance to perfect the form, here.

They might be able to fit that in underneath the "back and to the left" flasher button.

I'd settle for the inclusion of the
"Scot-Free" board game.

Each edition for every 12 days of Christmas.

It's a film that actually could use a new remaster and lossless audio, so every time there's a new release, I just ultimately check to find out if those things have happened, and if they haven't, move on. The current Blu essentially looks and sounds like a solid HDTV broadcast.

I'm actually surprised A Christmas Story sells enough copies each year to warrant so many re-issues, what with the annual 24-hour marathon. I have owned the 2-disc DVD set since it was released, and in all these years, I think I've watched it exactly once. I pretty much have my TV set to TBS/TNT (whichever it is) for the entire 24 hours and never feel the need to watch it on DVD. It's a film whose TV presence has become such a treasured part of my holiday that somehow watching it all in one sitting with no commercials just feels wrong.

All the President's Men will also be rereleased.
Now, I didn't expect that one to be a strong seller for WB.

Warner Bros. can't resist an anniversary, and this has been a perennial good seller for them.

40th-ish of Watergate, maybe? Yeah, I didn't even think twice when I saw that they're billing it as a 40th Anniversary Edition of a 1976 film.

In the last four years or so, it's become very popular on the LA repertory circuit every december. I've seen a 35mm print a couple times and it's quite a beautiful picture on film. Not amazing, but the bluray does seem digital in comparison and sort of pales to the 35mm look of the film. So I think there's room for improvement. I doubt I'll buy it yet again, though.

41 years since the initial break in, 39 years since Nixon resigned. WB is just splitting the difference.

Universal did the opposite and had a "15th Anniversary Edition" of Apollo 13.

Considering these recent announcements, I'm surprised Warner didn't rerelease Goodfellas to tie in with the 70th anniversary of Henry Hill's birth. Goodfellas being a film that's actually in need of a rerelease.

Goodfellas already had an anniversary edition, though I'm sure WB will try to milk the fans on another release down the line.
