Recent pick-ups: Jacques Doillon's upcoming Rodin-biopic, new Agnes Varda doc on the artist JR, and Bertrand Tavernier's doc about French cinema.

City Of Women at Beaver. Seems like an upgrade over the MOC.

I'm wondering if the sound is still as low as the MoC disc. It was so low I had to increase my amp volume almost to its maximum (it's a Yamaha which goes from -60dB to +20, I usually listen at -32.5) to hear the dialogues.

Did Crit loose the rights? I thought this was the one film of theirs they still had for the long term?

There was an ugly lawsuit between the Merchant Ivory company and Criterion. Not sure of all the details, but Merchant Ivory has a reputation of being tough to deal with.

They already confirmed they will not, so if you need the lossless audio, you can buy the gaumont.

Cohen will be putting out "Two Films By Douglas Sirk" in September. Google suggests that one is probably "A Scandal in Paris."

The second will most likely be Lured.

I think the future Pialats are all in the past now. The five features released by Cohen to date are it as far as US rights go, since
L'Enfance Nue and
A Nos Amours are (presumably) still with Criterion and
Nous ne vieillerons pas ensemble and
Police are in print from Kino and Olive.
Le Garcu is in a seemingly perpetual rights abyss (even Gaumont couldn't license it for individual release, and its inclusion in the Integrale box set was apparently a "once and never again" arrangement), and
La maison des bois seems to be beyond the resources of any English-language company. Even Gaumont haven't upgraded this to BluRay yet.
