Before movie: Oh man... there's this movie called Daydream Nation playing, I think it's a doc about Sonic Youth... I'm so there!

After movie: Hollywood just fucked my wallet.

I would imagine this might hold up production. From IMDB:
Tolkien Estate Sues Movie Bosses

The estate of author J.R.R. Tolkien is suing the movie bosses behind the Lord Of The Rings films for non-payment of royalties. The Tolkiens claim New Line Cinema executives owe them a large cut of the trilogy's gross profits. The Tolkien Trust charity and publishing house HarperCollins joined forces to file the lawsuit against New Line Cinema in Los Angeles on Monday. The plaintiffs claim New Line was required to pay over seven per cent of gross receipts from the films to Tolkien's estate. The lawsuit estimates the three films have made $6 billion at the international box office.
The Coens are set to adapt Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policeman's Union.

Not to mention this.

What a wonderfully productive time for the Coens. After finishing No Country, they've already got Burn After Reading in post, and have filmed some preliminary stuff for A Serious Man with principal photography starting in April. They'll begin work on The Yiddish Policeman's Union right after that. I haven't read the book yet, but I've liked the other Chabon that I've read. Here is the Variety story on the new announcement.

Paramount are making a new film of Sunset Boulevard. Not exactly a remake, it is based on the Lloyd Webber musical...

Peter Greenaway to channel his inner Mel Gibson.

It really is a great time for the Coen's, I also think they won't come away empty handed from the Oscars (some sort of split with PTA is my guess) which will really help their future projects. But what happened to Hail Caesar?

The Coen Brothers are nominated for four Oscars (one more than Fargo), for Best Producing, Writing, Directing and Editing. That's insane!!

Who are they going to send up if 'Roderick Jaynes' wins for best editing?

This is the greatest piece of cinema news ever!

Monopoly!

Why does this smell like the oh-so-disastrous take on Disneyland rides?

I assume this must tie in with the bizarre news from last year that supposedly Ridley Scott is at the helm.

Is this the sequel to There Will Be Blood?

Actually, if Monopoly casts Martin Mull as Rich Uncle Pennybags, it could be the greatest movie ever made.

I hope Ridley Scott decides to make this instead of Blood Meridian... I really want a major talent to take up that project (if anyone at all).

A Candy Land film could actually be interesting if they got a director like Schnabel to helm it

Busted.

And I think OSCARĀ® will be knocking on Rip Taylor's door in 2010 when he gets the role he was born to play.

Battleship would make a great M. Night film. The big twist would be that all the sailors aren't really dead because they were just pawns in a children's game. Can't wait for that Ouija film. Doubltess Eli Roth will be hemming that one.

Matthew Barney, hands down.

I think the choices are obvious:

Candy Land - Tim Burton

Battleship - Wolfgang Petersen (or dig up Eisenstein?)

Risk - Ridley Scott

And I think Wong Kar Wai is the only working director who could add palpable sexual tension to Chinese Checkers.

This would be great if they make it as a Glengarry Glen Ross type of movie. Real state fights, people fighting for leads on Baltic Ave, that kind of stuff.
