I'd love to see a Chris Marker set. I see he's made some very interesting short documentaries that seem nearly impossible to track down.

I don't know about anyone else, but it's just driving me crazy waiting for the next announcement. Everytime I see a new post on the main page in the Eclipse section I get really excited, but then when I click it, all hope drops: yup, another post in the Ozu thread.

I just had to get that off my chest. It's been bothering me for what seems like forever. Thanks.

Or even a boxset of Sembene Ousmane's films??? Moolaade doesn't exist in R1 land at all and was added to Ebert's great movies list this weekend!

Me too. Last night watching the supplements of the LJ/SS disc I got to wondering if they would consider adding the "Immemory" CD-ROM to any potential Eclipse set. Not knowing much about it, I assume they would have to translate it to English which would probably be way too much work for the Eclipse line.

Just thinking out loud.

An English translation of Immemory already exists, though I think it's out of print by now, and it was always for Mac machines only. (It's still listed, but not available, at Amazon.)

I've actually contemplated trying to find a cheap Mac just for this, but never got around to it. If anyone knows of a really good Mac emulator for Linux or Windows that might be able to run this (it's a HyperStudio application, supposedly), please let me know.

Have I missed something here? I thought there should have been a new eclipse update like 2 weeks ago?

There will not be an Eclipse release in September, but October announcements should be released either Friday or Monday.

Moolade is New Yorker Films property. I'd expect a DVD announcement for later this year.

Me, as well. Of course, I've just spent the weekend watching "Sans soleil" over and over. And over. And have come to the conclusion that having only ever seen 4 of his films is something like starving. More Marker, please.

Didn't they hint it would be a French New Wave set?

I checked out the other forum for the first time in a while today, and noticed you mentioned over there that your source told you this one was coming up. Since your source was right about the other October releases, I'll assume that this is happening too. Does your source work for Criterion?
Narshty wrote:Didn't they hint it would be a French New Wave set?
I think a few people inferred that when Criterion offered this hint.

I don't see any reason to think that this was referring to additional titles beyond Breathless though. Breathless is the New Wave.

there was a newspaper article with Criterion where they mentioned a New Wave Eclipse box, the cat didn't enter into it

It would've been adorable awesome if he/she did.

You're correct that it was mentioned as an eventual set in the Filmmaker magazine report. I don't think that there's any reason to think that Criterion has hinted it's coming soon though. I think the cat was the "hint" Narshty was referring to.

Filmmaker also mentioned a Samurai box, but I got the impression that Imamura, Naruse and Mizoguchi would be first.

The second to last paragraph of the last Eclipse newsletter seemed to indicate that the they want to break away from the auteur-based groupings. I agree with many others that a set of silents would be very welcome and the time could not be more appropriate for a Taiwanese set. Are many members submitting ideas to Criterion for possible Eclipse releases? If so, what have you submitted?

I suggested a collection of films of Chinese Fifth Generation film makers such as Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Zhou Xiaowen, and Hu Mei.

I think I would explode with happiness should such a thing come to pass (I've had something of a hard on for Fifth Generation movies since seeing Raise the Red Lantern and Farewell My Concubine recently, and that era is so woefully underrepresented on DVD).

Series 6 is Carlos Saura's Flamenco Trilogy. Blood Wedding, Carmen, El Amor Brujo.
