Does Warners even release new DVDs anymore? I thought that at this point they were dedicating all their time and efforts to hunting down and murdering babies.

One of the terms of the agreement apparently was that Warner Bros. would provide "increased access to content for its online streaming service." I'll be optimistic that they're going to provide access to all those Warner Archive films and a bunch of other rare, unavailable-on-DVD films.

I can't speak for everyone, but this deal doesn't really affect me negatively—there's just so much to see.

I hadn't thought about the possibility of Warner Archive titles becoming available. That would actually make it all worth while. Come to think of it, it takes like two months after release date before I can ever seem to get new releases anyway. What's another month on top of that?

It's a pity Netflix doesn't carry any of the Flicker Alley titles. Is there a way to request them?

There used to be a way to recommend titles for them to add to their site, but I don't see it in the contact section anymore. I suppose you can always try calling customer service.

Count me as one of the people this move doesn't affect. I see new releases in the theaters anyway, so it all works out from my point of view, especially if I gain access to Warner Archive films without having to pay $20 a pop.

Any guesses on when the fruits of this deal might begin to appear on Watch Instantly?

Hard to say. There appear to be many Warner Bros. films coming up for instant viewing on Netflix, but it's unclear if they are a result of this agreement. And I have no idea if the Warner Archive titles will, in fact, show up. That was just wishful thinking on my part.

I love me some data visualization: what are your neighbors renting from Netflix?

I noticed that they DO now carry Bardelys the Magnificent & Monte Cristo......it's a bit odd to see my name (I did the Monte Cristo score) pop up at the top of the description! Poor John Gilbert....upstaged by a damned piano player!

I can't find the suggest a title area either. I was wondering if the newest wave of the (great) series, Jazz Icons, would ever change status from "Save", since they were released about 2 months ago, but finally they seem slated for Jan. 19th availability.

If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and catch Jack Clayton's marvelous The Pumpkin Eater. A rare treat!

Thanks for the tip! I've been kicking myself ever since missing the first half of this when it aired on TCM a few months ago.

Tip now taken, and it was a treat indeed. James Mason's smallish supporting role is devastating (best line: "You've made me wet"). I'm going to have to strongly consider importing the Moviemail exclusive disc.

I watched You, the Living tonight and was pleasantly surprised to find that Netflix is streaming it in its correct 1.66:1 AR rather than the slightly cropped 1.78 on the R1 DVD.

Thanks for the information. I wasn't going to watch this, but just might now if I feel up to it (I was not at all a fan of Songs from the Second Floor).

I like it even more than SFTSF, but it's in a similar vein, so you might not care for it. Personally, I think it's a masterpiece.

I'm curious to see how the Netflix version compares to my Artificial Eye R2 release, which is slightly boxed on the right side, but not, I don't think, all the way to 1.66.

Upon checking my Netflix queue, I noticed that Jeanne Dielman is now denoted as 'unavailable'. How is this possible? The DVD was just released six months ago. Do titles ever fluctuate between being available and unavailable?

Not long after Criterion released In the Realm of the Senses, it too became unavailable on Netflix, but now it seems to be back.

I noticed that the 1993 movie Airborne has just become available on Netflix for instant streaming. I'm sure that movie holds no interest for anyone here, but it is a Warner Archives title, so apparently Warner Bros. is giving Netflix access to these films.
