As Fanciful said above, they usually label them "out of print" if they're out of print. It could be a coincidence since they just had the sale and they are out of stock and/or between printings on those titles.

Agreed, and I made a pretty penny selling the Trilogy of Life and Salo a few months ago after the last sale. However, a bunch of titles (like Seven Samurai and Salo) now say "on back order."

Seconds, unlike the previously mentioned Paramount titles, is showing "On Back-Order" rather than "Currently Unavailable."

Someone asked about Rosemary's Baby and Criterion said it would not be coming back in stock.

Whether that meant not returning in time to offer a replacement, or not returning ever, I'm not sure.

I'm not too worried. The Parallax View just got released, and The Furies, which is getting upgraded in April, is through Paramount. The website lists them as "Currently Unavailable" instead of "Out of Print". I think they'll probably be restocked by the time the July B&N sale comes around.

Yeah, we just had a flash sale and these are popular releases.

As of this morning, both Rosemary's Baby and Harold and Maude are listed as back in stock.

I'm interested to see what things look like in a week, as I wouldn't be too surprised if Paramount allowed the rights to their films to lapse.

With the rest of the trilogy in the collection now, I wonder if Criterion can tap Warner for All The President's Men?

It and the Leigh are definitely very weird omissions.

I wonder with their pledge from last year during BLM that they've actively sought out films from filmmakers of African American background
to diversify their output? They seem to have a lot of films in the backlog to release already (most of Wim Wenders catalog for example).

Also with Paramount removing their licenses for various films in the last week or so, that Criterion's monopoly over such lucrative re-releases might be diminishing.
Paramount joins Fox and Studiocanal in the re-acquisition of high profile films from their back catalog.

I'm going to post here because I will not assume the following is OOP.... The Lady Vanishes is listed as Currently Unavailable, while The Man Who Knew Too Much is listed as On Back Order. Criterion is confusing with their classifications

I assume back order means that items just need to be taken out of a warehouse (so they have a known number available but they just aren't ready for immediate shipping), while currently unavailable implies that the title actually needs to be reprinted (which could take time depending on the manufacturer's availability, especially during Covid).

Criterion is listed as the licensor for Thomas Vinterberg's Festen on Alamo's website

Excellent, right up their alley and ripe for extras. Outside of being the first Dogme 95 film, hopefully they get an interview with some mental health specialist since it's been assessed as an accurate depiction of the effects of

sexual abuse

When you press the spoiler box button, it turns green, a bit like choosing the green speech!

There was Thomas Vinterberg phantom page as far back as 2013, so I suspect they have had the rights for a while...

Has the guessing thread been abandoned? It's like the third time in four months the thread has been inoperative, or barely so. Anyway, these are the June titles:

Upgrades of The Human Condition and Pickup on South Street
Box set of Marlon Riggs movies
Streetwise/Tiny
Pariah
Standalone Visions of Eight from the Olympic box

(Congrats to CSM126, who shrewdly predicted the Marlon Riggs box a couple months ago.)

I figured they’d skip today to avoid getting lost in the Oscar news. Great surprise on the Riggs set!

Yeah, that's where I found them. Criterion seems to have been announcing midday for a few months now. I remember it used to be at 3 p.m., then later, at 6 p.m.

I wonder what the holdup was for Pickup on South Street, seeing as Eureka put out the 4k restoration over here six years ago?

I know! I finally gave up waiting last year and got the MoC. Kinda wish this was a White Dog upgrade instead.

I'm guessing it was a now or never situation given the Fox/Disney mess. Perhaps they retained the rights as a "One day" kinda holding and then moved it forward only when it was in danger of lapsing/going away forever
