I wonder who the other 3rd party label was that had the video rights when Kino made their previous MGM deals. Regardless, really glad to see the film finally getting a BD release.

You can thank me for this release. After years of holding out waiting for a Blu-ray from *anyone*, and hearing that the 101 Films DVD was likely deleted, I finally ordered the UK DVD on Tuesday. Somebody had to do it.

I’m curious as well. This really doesn’t seem like a Shout title, and I don’t get the impression that Criterion went after it, either (unlike Marat/Sade, which the Kino Insider has basically said was tied up with Criterion for years). Regardless, I’m so happy to finally retire my shit burn-on-demand MGM disc

For a Fistful of Beavers. The Kino's color seems to be pretty much in line with the acclaimed Italian blu-ray, if Beaver's captures are to be trusted.

From KLI at Blu-Ray.com, new Paramount deal:
We just signed a new Paramount deal. I can't share any details till later, it includes 65 new titles, 3 Paramount renewals and 3 CBS renewals, 71 in total

Well, that came a little out of nowhere! One has to imagine this will put a big dent in a lot of Imprint titles that have been quite costly to import! Hopefully there will be some new scans for some of those titles where needed and maybe even 4K releases.

KL Insider just confirmed that there are 4K titles included. Hopefully this means that other labels are able to license UHDs from Paramount (including the Miramax titles).

I bet they licensed the 4K of Once Upon a Time in the West to go along with their MGM Leone UHDs.

Same. My copy even has a slight glitch in the newsroom scene early in the film.

I wonder how many ex-Criterions will now come out as Kino UHDs

I would not wager many - Paramount did their own new releases already of Days of Heaven, Nashville, and Harold and Maude, and I imagine Rosemary's Baby probably will come at Halloween or so on 4K (via the Presents line or otherwise). So it would be really unlikely that those ones they took back to be suddenly let out again while the new releases are still sitting on shelves. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out - besides the Leone film it really does feel like it could be basically anything as we don't really have any indication from other labels at the moment how open Paramount's library is (like, is Sunset Boulevard and Chinatown now in the tier that can get licensed out, or is that too far?) Also hoping this results in a much improved release (4K or 2K) for The Truman Show which has seemed overdue for a very, very long time.

I can't imagine Criterion not having some kind of deal in place as well. I'd be interested to see if There Will Be Blood gets licensed out, especially for a 4K.

given that The Virgin Suicides is a paramount title and is coming from Criterion in July, they almost certainly have a deal in place. whether the former OOP titles return will be the next step. I don't think Criterion will allow a repeat of the MGM UHD fiasco to happen again. so look for Kino to put out titles Criterion hasn't already..Once Upon a Time in the West is certainly a good bet. and we'll see if Sunset Boulevard, Chinatown, and There Will Be Blood are in the game.

but as mentioned, Miramax is the biggest variable. Amelie? Pulp Fiction? what's going to happen with those?

Philosophical convos in 4K really make the arguments pop

LOL. Yes, absolutely, but really I'd just be glad to have it in proper aspect ratio.

Agreed, and while not exactly a 'mainstream' effort, you'd think a company that found merit in small-group conversational films like The Before trilogy and My Dinner with Andre would give it a home on the market!

Vincent Ward’s Map of the Human Heart would be lovely. I can see Prospero’s Books being among the titles, too

Was Atom Egoyan’s Exotica a Miramax title that went to Paramount? I’d asked about The Adjuster, which apparently is no longer with MGM
