I would have liked to see Army of Shadows and Le cercle rouge on Blu.

On a related note, retailers across the country have been hoarding copies of Hopscotch for years

scotty2, you need to make the following changes:
1) Add these two titles to your list:
Elena And Her Men (part of Stage and Spectacle Box Set)
Mafioso (StudioCanal is mentioned in the licensing info on the back of the box.)
2)Delete Made in USA. It seems StudioCanal doesn't own the US rights. They are not mentioned on the back of the box. The licensing info on the back states: "Under exclusive license from Rialto Pictures. All rights reserved. Copyright 2009 The Criterion Collection. All rights reserved."

Anyone paying $95 in the future for a out-of-print Hopscotch should check into a psychiatric ward. Seriously...

Has there been an announcement by Criterion about any sort of discount for the newly OOP films? I'm itching to buy those Bunuel films but the price is better over at Deep Discount.
Btw, for Jean-Luc Garbo...I'm a passionate fan of Bunuel, here's how I would rank the OOP films:
1. Obscure Object
2. Discreet Charm
3. Milky Way
4. Phantom of Liberty
5. Diary of a Chambermaid
Milky Way is a serious attack on Christianity, which may bother some people. However, it is done in a very thoughtful, sincere manner that ultimately leaves me with a sense of mystery, not unlike the feeling one might have after a religious service.

Thanks dwk. I didn't find Mafioso on the Studio Canal site. Changes made.

so Mafioso is or is not SC and in danger of future OOPness? Just want to know what titles to target in the upcoming B&N sale so as to not get caught short like this again. This is all incredibly annoying, and I hereby wish a pox on the souls of Studio Canal's decision makers.

I do expect this is discussed elsewhere in more consistent detail, but does anyone know of any active discount codes for the Criterion store site? I had one in pocket for the last OOP sale but feel like it's changed over since then.

Criterion on Facebook, on whether they'll be discounting the newly OOP titles on their online store like last time, wrote:They're already discounted 20% off SRP, but beyond that, no plans...

Boo, I'll just have to wait for the B&N sale.

anyone had any luck via DeepDiscount? at $18 for the lower priced ones, that's well worth it vs. the gamble of waiting for the sale...but it seems all of them are OOS. I ordered Obscure Object the day of the announcement but haven't heard a word.

I'm in a boat similar to design and buoyancy of yours right now: ordered "Kind Hearts," "Billy Liar," "Milky Way" and "Phantom/Liberty" from DD shortly following the announcement, but as of yet, all still backordered and no guarantee (as far as I can tell) that they'll actually ship.
Can anyone shed light on similar experiences with DeepDiscount during the OOP craze of early spring 2010? Perhaps you ordered a "Fallen Idol," went a month without confirmation and then all of a sudden it ended up on your doorstep, shrouded in intrigue? I'd shurely appreciate notification from them as soon as possible if they're unable to obtain, so that I may place an alternate order with the Criterion store.

They have shipped my "The Man who fell to earth" DVD yesterday.

During the first Studio Canal OOP spree I needed to pick up seven Criterions. Got two from Amazon, four from DVD Empire and ordered one (Coup de Torchon) from Deep Discount. All seven were not in stock at the time at the respective vendors; the ONLY one that got cancelled on me was the Deep Discount one. The 'we're giving up on your order' email came after nearly a month, which fortunately was still enough time to order it from DVD Empire (who sent it a week later).
So my answer would be, don't rely on them just because they're a couple of bucks cheaper during this sale.

Yeah, I'm avoiding ordering these soon-to-be OOP releases from Deep Discount for that very reason. Amazon just shipped my Man Who fell to Earth, the one I'm most anxious to get. Thankfully, I already have all of the Bunuels. The only other ones I may be interested in are A Woman Is a Woman, Bob le Flambeur, and Kind Hearts and Coronets, and I'm willing to wait and see if Barnes & Noble still has them during their upcoming sale. If not, it's no biggie.

Thanks much for the feedback. There's only one or two I've got my heart set on, so if DeepDiscount blanches on fulfilling the order I may simply roll the dice on B&N if their sale goes online next month.
Ordered a Blu of "The Man Who Fell To Earth," which was going for $29 on Amazon.ca -- in recent days it's gone from "ships in 6-10 days" to "1-2 weeks" to "not in stock, but we'll ship when we get it," so I guess we'll see what happens with that.

i appreciate the feedback on DeepDiscount. I'll go ahead and leave my order for Obscure Object and one for Milky Way open just in case...but canceled the one for bob and grisbi. I'll take my chances with the B&N sale I guess....most of the previous SC OOP list is still available there, with only a couple gone for good. Those are the only four i'm missing that I still want, so I'm thinking they should be gettable still in July.

So...even at what seems like an "early" stage in this, I should probably buy from the Criterion store even though I have the titles backordered with Deep Discount? Serious replies only.

I know that my order of seven titles from the Criterion store during the last OOP hootenanny was completed in full, not to mention very well-shipped. I've heard some reports on here of previous titles ("Diary/Country Priest," perhaps?) reported as backordered at the Criterion store and then not filled, although it seems generally that it offers much better odds for desired titles than DeepDiscount.
These titles generally seem to have dissipated to "Temporarily out of stock" status nearly everywhere but CC in the last week, which I guess could either be attributed to a pent-up indecision on picking up "Billy Liar" at long last or to a much later-in-the-game announcement of OOP transition by Criterion.

A seller by the name of blowitoutahere has reasonable prices on amazon for a few oop titles, I ordered discreet charm for around $28 and Obscure Object of Desire for roughly $20.50 including shipping fees on both titles. Both dvds were shipped to me today. Looks like kind hearts and coronets, and A Woman Is a Woman are the the only other titles available by this seller. Also on amazon, Touchez pas au grisbi can be nabbed for around $20 total, and man who fell to earth is around 28 for the blu.

I've ordered from their separate site before (

There's still a Pierrot le Fou BD at the San Diego Borders in Mission Valley for the two of you who haven't picked it up yet.
