The Daily Beast Interview with Community's Female Cast includes this Britta-like gem:

Jacobs: And they got their periods simultaneously!

This feels like a line right from Britta:
Gillian Jacobs wrote:A friend of mine wrote a script, a feminist romantic comedy. She had a feminist scholar consult on it. My friend said, “Oh, my friend Gillian read it and really loved it.” She goes, “Gillian Jacobs, you mean: Britta Perry, feminist icon?”

The imminent cancellation made Gillian Jacobs cry. Come on guys, let's go beat NBC up to defend her honor

Lukewarm episode. Some really good stuff surrounded by a fair amount of filler. Pierce's 'wacky inventions that don't work right' bits were tedious, as was Troy and Abed's non-dilemma. This show used to find really smart ways to present old sitcom tropes. Now they just present old sitcom tropes.

Britta and Jeff were great, tho'. Their drunken attempt at marriage was hysterical.

Those time cards were awful, but the Troy and Abed stuff saved the episode.

Admittedly, their sincerity being indistinguishable from sarcasm was very clever and funny.

It was probably the episode's unevenness, but Danny Pudi acting like Danny Pudi on camera made me laugh more than anything. Although the Jeff-Britta exchange would have been a better foundation for an episode and could have been a clever play on the cliched sitcom wedding.

I haven't watched it yet, so I zoomed down the page pretty quick, but some great news:
The post-hiatus return of Community drew a season high 2.2 adults 18-49, up 46% vs. a 1.5 rating in its last new episode in early December. Community was the #1 show of the night among adults 18-34.
It also had more total viewers than the Office  \:D/

Great news! It had some tough competition too, with Vampire Diaries also returning from a brief hiatus during the same timeslot. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

It even had a higher 18-34 demo than freaking American Idol-- I can't believe it, it's the closest thing I've seen to a miracle

Okay, I finally watched the ep and I laughed out loud an awful lot-- maybe I just missed the show, but while I'll acknowledge this wasn't on a conceptual level with Community's normal standard, it was still very amusing and a good pick for getting newer viewers.

Harmon and Co. must have spent the hiatus replacing the general viewing public with Steppenwolf Wives.

Maybe Oscars do help? Also I like the episode, but that may be because I had seen the Handler sitcom earlier in the day which reminded me what crap looks like.

I actually liked the Troy & Abed material, but I agree it was an uneven episode overall, mostly because of how awkwardly Chase fits into this show in general. Having said that, I just enjoyed having the show back on the air and really appreciated the concerted effort they made at just throwing a bunch of creative flourishes at the audience in just one episode. Not all of them worked amazingly well, but it just reminded me why I enjoy the show so much.

I got the feeling they were aiming for a small reintroduction to gain as many new viewers as possible with this premier. I'm sure subsequent episodes will be more typically large.

It's not that I didn't think a lot of their individual moments were funny, I just thought the whole arc was mishandled. Its resolution was strikingly inconsequential: the writers have the monkey be the deus ex machina, and then Troy and Abed revert to their 'oddness' with little fuss. As I said earlier, it was all a non-issue, and worse, no one seemed to want to do anything with the fact that their extreme normalcy was a lot weirder than their regular weirdness (except for the perfectly handled moment where their sincerity is indistinguishable from sarcasm). It was a good idea that wasn't capitalized on in a show that never used to miss these opportunities.

The wackiness of this episode really made me appreciate the underplaying of Parks and Recreation. That said, I very much liked the dramatic moment at the end between Troy and Abed. Really well handled and saved the episode for me.
