I really love the cover for Young Mr. Lincoln. It's lovely. I really love the Bad Sleep Well cover. I think it is very clever. It is very abstract, but makes sense to those familiar with the film. Brilliant!

It's not gatefold...

It's a wide (really wide) slipcase, which features the art you can find at www.criteriondvd.com.

The double amaray is probably what you want to see, and it is nice, but a gatefold could have been even nice imo.

There is nothing in the "Young Mr. Lincoln" cover I like. The font is a bit too sixties for my taste and looks like it has been "thrown" onto the picture, which by the way does not awake my curiosity at all. I'm extremely disappointed with this one...

Too Sixties? Do you mean the font? I guess that font might have been used in the sixties, but I feel it is very evocative of the period in which the film is set. Not that you have to like it. But I feel it suits the film nicely.

I like the cover to YOUNG MR. LINCOLN too. The "directed by" is fine just the way it is too. It's not supposed to stand out since anyone who would buy this would already know that the larger words below are the name of the director.

I like the Young Mr. Lincoln cover a lot, but not the 'directed by' text. I think moving said text to the bottom of the cover would help it out a lot and would in turn make it easier to read.

This may sound odd, but moving some of the type to the bottom would draw more attention to the type and take away from the photo. As it is now, the type looks like one element because of its careful spacing. One takes it in quickly and then concentrates on the moody photo. By breaking up the type, you now get 3 graphic elements with 2 of them being text. I think one would then find his or her eyes constantly moving back and forth between them and not fixing on the mood set by the monochromatic photo.

Yeah, that makes sense. I looked at it for a bit longer and the balance seemed to work better than I thought it did. It would clear up that 'directed by' text issue, though.

If they moved it to the bottom they'd have to do something to the top of the picture too probably, so that wouldn't really work I guess.

I wonder if whoever designed this cover also designed The Man Who Fell to Earth, because they seem fairly similar to me. Well, just the text, really.

I've actually got Can's Tago Mago and Delay 1968 on my shelf right now. I figure this cover also inspires me to listen to some Pere Ubu. Y'know something abstract.

i like the way that guy made that imponderable/inpenetrable/extreme "this cover looks like Nazi imagery" statement, then disappears again.

Einstur are wonderful, but don't really fall into the Krautrock category, by virtue of chronology, if nothing else. Can and Neu! totally fit tho. As would early Tangerine Dream, early Cluster, Guru Guru, Amon Duul II, Harmonia, or Ash Ra Tempel.
