If you look at the photo of the boxset, posted earlier in this thread, the same images look like they're used on that back cover.
Those little icons on the back of the box are indeed the images used on the covers in the boxed set. Except that the cover of The Shining should have the "REDRUM" door like this
Spanish version. Instead it has the "Here's Johnny"
image of the individual release. Neither its spine nor its cover match the other discs. It was obviously put into the box by mistake. I wonder if this is the reason for the delay. The
Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures disc doesn't match the others either, but perhaps that one was intentional.

This is completely trivial, but it's curious that the Spanish cover reads "The Resplandor"

I guess with this release and Blade Runner Warner couldn't handle the workload. But one has to ask - couldn't they have seen these problems coming four to six weeks ago? They would've been in a better position to delay the release than to deal with the inevitable recall that will be coming. It's somewhat disquieting that a studio of this size can't seem to handle big releases like this (see last year's Superman fiasco). Perhaps we should start taking bets on what will be wrong/missing/messed up in the Blade Runner set.

The paper unicorn will instead be in the shape of a Swan.

Well not that it matters to me that much, but I thought I would post pics of my set to let those of you who do care that not all sets are mismatched:

Nice SHINING case, but it looks like you too got the R-rated version of EYES WIDE SHUT (unless I'm misreading the above posts).
Actually, I think the only thing I'm upset about is that LOLITA is not anamorphic. I haven't checked BARRY LYNDON yet but I can imagine it's the same thing.
I think I may wait a year before buying this stuff, hopefully kinks will be ironed out.

I thought mbalson stated above that he has already confirmed that he received the unrated version.

I also got the box and EWS is definitely the unrated version, even though the "R" rating is on the back of both the box and the EWS case.

Nevermind. So there's no way of knowing which version of EYES WIDE SHUT you'll get?

I guess not. I'm now hesitant to open my box-set because I'm not sure Best Buy will allow me to return the set if I've already opened it (I've had problems with them in the past). I think I'll wait to read what Digital Bits can find out about this botched release.
The weirdest thing about the random nature of the
Eyes Wide Shut disc is that if people are finding one or the other within these packages then it seems like an indication that WB had still recently intended to release both discs (otherwise why produce both discs for re-release), but something must have gone wrong within the last few weeks.

There haven't been any reports of people actually having the rated Eyes Wide Shut from these new releases, have there? People are just getting thrown off by the "R" on the box and case. I don't believe I've read anyone claiming to definitely have the digital insertions in the film - it's just an assumption based on the inadvertent inclusion of the rating.

Based on the comments posted earlier in the thread, I thought headacheboy actually popped in the DVD and confirmed he had received the rated/censored version with the digital insertions.
Perhaps I'm misinterpreting these comments:
headacheboy wrote:I get it home and I'm quite excited to watch the "unrated" version of Eyes Wide Shut so I pop it into the computer and guess what? There is only one version on the DVD and that is the R rated version.
headacheboy wrote:Okay, I've figured this out. I fouled up by assuming that Eyes Wide Shut had both the R rated and the unrated version on the same disc. I did not interpret the statement on the back of the box which reads" First Time North American Availability of Uncensored International Version" to mean you would get either the R Rated version or the Unrated version.
So, it appears when you buy this box check to see if there is a "Restricted" logo next to the quip about this movie on the back of the box. If so, you've got the R rated version.
It still sounds to me that he received the "rated/censored/digital insertions" version of the movie, but who the hell knows anymore.

According to the digital bits:
However, neither do these discs include the theatrical version as expected, so if you want that too, you need to keep your original DVD.

But doesn't headacheboy's experience kind of challenge that statement? I thought The Digital Bits was just making that assumption based on their own experience and what has been reported to them up till now. If headacheboy were to inform The Digital Bits about his experience, wouldn't they change their statement?

It seems that Warner decided to change covers at the last minute. That Shining cover looks exactly like the R2
Spanish edition.

Ignore the box, ignore the blurbs, ignore the blogs. I just finished watching EWS, and now that my erection has subsided, I can report that it consists solely of the unrated version.
BTW, the extras on disc two of this one were not that great.

Why in god's name would anyone want or need the rated version? Isn't it just the unrated version, but censored?

I think he was making his assumption based solely on the R-rating on the box and cover, and not on the actual contents. He said "
I pop it into the computer and guess what? There is only one version on the DVD and that is the R-rated version." Apparently, when he saw there was only one version, he just assumed it was the R-rated one, instead of forwarding to and watching the scenes in question. That's how I read it, anyway.

the reason why I'm keeping it is for the 1:33 aspect ratio (same with The Shining).
Those two films, for me, work better as full screen films (it gives them a bizarre spacial quality that makes the films themselves seem even further removed from standard film conventions)
Now if I could only get the unrated version in fullscreen!

Wasn't this available in Europe? I don't have my copy handy at the moment, but I thought it was fullscreen and uncensored.

Agreed, especially in the case of EWS, it gives the film a much more intimate feeling IMO. I'm keeping the original Warner box-set for this exact reason and I doubt I'll go for any of the new releases except maybe ACO for the anamorphic. I think if Warner had really done the job properly they would've issued both the 1.33:1 and 1.85:1 versions.

Can't you just pick up a second-hand copy of the older PAL R2 disc on Ebay.co.uk? Or, get it from Subterranean Cinema which I assume is region-free.

I've since watched Eyes Wide Shut and it turns out to be the unrated version. I know my posts sound a bit confused but I do indeed have an unrated version despite having the MPAA Restricted logo on the back of the box near the Eyes Wide Shut mask.
And for the record my Shining is a "Here's Johnny" cover. Oh well, at least it isn't made with lead paint.

I can confirm that the EWS disc in the boxset shown in my post above is the Unrated version.
