As long as we get The Adversary I’ll be thrilled (though I’m getting sick of buying entire box sets and doubling up on releases for 1-2 new films I want)

A major box set of his works would seem a no-brainer for Criterion Collection. Perhaps they are still planning it later this year. In my opinion, it would have been a far worthier undertaking than Wong Kar Wai, even if the latter was not plagued by the issues we have been talking about.
In all fairness, the Wong Kar-wai set had been in development for a long time.

The film stars two of the biggest sex symbols of the sixties and while there is a little nudity overall the film is focused on languidly paced eroticism that the raincoat brigade would never show up or stick around for. Much of the film is just the two of them frolicking around the poolside, so not an inaccurate "sell" of the movie in the cover
That's exactly what I expected, and more or less what the cover implies.

And neither is one I'm opposed to, I just chuckled at the art and wondered at where the marketing was coming from.

Sólo con tu pareja is getting a bluray upgrade, sadly with no new restoration or extras:

Viet Thanh Nguyen tweeted that he has written an essay for Criterion's release of After Life.

At last another Kore-eda film on Criterion! Great news. It has been criminally long since Still Walking, so I ended up importing most of his films from the UK already from BFI, Arrow, and Artificial Eye, and Distance from Japan.

Now playing on the Criterion Channel with Criterion and Janus logos:

Tricheurs, Barbet Schroeder, 1984
The House Is Black, Forough Farrokhzad, 1962

Very excited about the prospect of a The House Is Black release. Extremely powerful short film that could hold it own as a standalone release like Night and Fog or Patriotism.

I just emailed them, and they said Janus held the rights to the documentaries from 'Goodbye CP' to 'Sennan Asbestos Disaster'. I'm not sure if 'The Many Faces of Chika' would be a part of that since it's a drama.

Not the boldest of predictions I know, but in lieu of a box set announcement I was anticipating this past week I am now clinging to hope for two Satyajit Ray titles being announced for August. I'd hate for his centennial birth month to pass by with only a pointer to the Channel's (impressive) collection without a nod to any physical media release.

Which titles is irrelevant since his work is (mostly) a blind spot for me. Perhaps they could continue the trend and pull from the Eclipse series?

If we get all of Ray's titles currently on the Criterion Channel, plus Pratidvandi (Adversary), Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest) and Jana Aranya, that would be a great box release.

The absence of Pratidvandi from the Channel’s lineup and the TCM centennial program might be coincidences of neglect, but doesn’t leave me with much hope either

Gacivory at Blu-ray.com:
Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it here. But I was listening to the podcast, The Dead Pixel. It has people that work at Criterion on it. They mentioned they are working on an upgrade of Blast of Silence. It’s on episode 2 if anyone wants to listen.
And:
They were discussing the different aspect ratios on the episode. Their release is 1.33:1. They asked Robert Harris who said 1.85:1, and Universal says 2.00:1.

Pull an on the waterfront slap all three A.R.'s on the upgrade. Just kidding but I had actually forgotten this was in the collection up until reading that. Might need to revisit soon.

Very out of the blue here but I think a while ago I read something that 9 to 5 would possibly be coming to Criterion. Was there ever any substantial truth to that?

It wouldn’t be entirely out of left field given that it was a Twilight Time title and Colin Higgins appears elsewhere in the collection (as a writer). However, I haven’t heard anything concrete.

It's a Fox film, so if any company could release it, Criterion would be the one. But I'd be surprised - doesn't have the cachet of a Breakfast Club or Moonstruck, I don't think.

Maybe not anymore, but I remember when it was on TV (I think Comedy Central?) every day as a kid

I'd say it has a similar cachet to The Princess Bride, though: it's a frequently referenced, widely beloved movie outside the cinephile set, and all three of its leads are still household names to varying degrees.

There’s also that fanaticism over Dolly Parton than seems to have exploded with younger people the last decade. It’s also very much in Criterion’s wheelhouse as it’s a film born out of second-wave feminism and the politics of women in the workplace.
