Calm down guys. They're just waiting for someone in the new administration to let them know what they're allowed to release.

Not to be that guy, but I was half-jokingly half-seriously wondering if the Criterion Collection as we know it would survive Project 2025.

basically the only label at this point who doesn't state when they're making their announcements. I guess Indicator and Second Run don't either, but they're also very much more transparent about.... basically everything?

They seem to have just started a bluesky social media account with no posts. Maybe they’re fleeing twitter/X like everyone else and waiting until all posts have migrated over before announcing.

They picked the worst possible timing for their Wacky Seed Oils rollout

Due to the Trump tariffs all of 2025's releases are cancelled. Sad.

pretty audacious to tell us to watch a title on their streaming service that they're the only remaining label who potentially have a shot at licensing and releasing it

I dislike the fact that the channel is their main focus nowadays. Seems like their just a social media influencer at this point with their closet videos.

Maybe this is how they tell us that they’ve stopped releasing physical media

So this is how it ends, not with a bang but with a Jo Jo Dancer.

Opposing opinion/taste: I can't remember the last time there were so many 'Coming Soon' or recently-released titles that are definite purchases for me. Each of the last several months of announcements have resulted in me allocating more money to the dying market for physical media.

Related note: I recently sold my 30th Anniversary blu ray of The Right Stuff for over $60. Two points about this: 1. The connoisseurs/nerds still want something to hold in their hand even at ridiculous prices. 2. I'm now ready for Criterion to release a 4K of The Right Stuff, which they should (and maybe could?).

It’s very odd that neither Kino Lorber nor Criterion have put out Henry & June

personally Criterion have fixed the problem when it comes to what titles they're releasing. I was gonna wait until the Forum Awards thread (which we should all be able to submit ballots quickly for, given the editions won't take long to go through..) to say this but I've been buying plenty of the titles, they're releasing a lot of heavy hitters for me personally, and the image quality is really incredible on basically every release (I'm not gonna fault them for Scarface, but Gummo blew me away, for example). so they do get what's ultimately important correct, which is cool I guess. but at what point is it worth it for a title to be a Criterion versus a studio release if they're not going to load up on extras at all? obviously Warner would never release Gummo themselves, but there are numerous WAC titles that I get for way cheaper that basically have the same amount of extras as Criterion. I don't know, I know we've beat this discussion to death on here over the last few months, but every single month more and more people are starting to agree with these points. and I'm not just seeing it on this website either

It can't be the end yet, Criterion's last month of physical media will include

The Devils
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
Napolean (1927) or Greed (most complete version available)
Annie Hall & Manhattan
Henry & June
The Complete Frederick Wiseman box or AK 125 UHD box

So it looks like jokes about Trump not sparing Criterion are allowed here but not on Blu-ray.com…

Anyhow, I doubt CC would have sniped all those MGM from Kino if they were in the process of winding down their disc program.

Interesting reading this thread, 'berate, berate, berate, *excitedly* refresh, refresh, refresh.

Isn't this a case of Annie Hall's 'we need the eggs?'

They could be sitting on a license that was inked pre-mouse and hasn’t expired yet.
