It took a while for it to dawn on me... but this awful episode played like a spec script from one of the people who writes those skits for The Soup when it's a thin week for good clips

The dean's reaction to Winger had me in stitches, but MJ Britta was the best part.

I thought French Stewart playing a French Stewart impersonator was the best thing to come out of the whole celebrity look-alike stuff.

Outside of the embarrassing apple/Hulk stuff I actually thought the episode on the whole was very funny and well structured with a few nice emotional moments. Though I think I'm still recovering from being blindsided after watching an episode of a typical sitcom.

Not as good as last week's and dangerously close to Scrubs-level offerings from the beginning of the season, but as usual there were some good gags. I kind of thought the Pierce story line (what would that be, a D or E storyline?) was the strongest, as it had a nicely developed path and a certain sad sweetness that this show does so well

The ratings fell from last week, unsurprisingly, but it was still NBC's highest rated show of the night

Scrubs was so much better than this week's Community. Dangerously close my foot.

Me neither, but at least they've made it a clear measuring stick.

Comparing to Scrubs is meaningless since we all have different opinions about it, and, like many other shows, it could vary wildly in quality from one episode/season to the next. There must be a better analogy that could be made, perhaps something to do with this deformed lemon I'm holding in my hand right now...

And don't forget to book BNL for the reception.

Finally. For like the third time this season I felt like I was watching a real Community episode. Some broad jokes, some blink and you'll miss 'ems ("1984 really spoke to me. All kids should be forced to read it"), and any number of great Britta moments. Plus an actual arc seems to be building. Hope this bodes well for the rest of the season.

Yeah, this episode was tied with the Glee parody for my favorite thus far this season, the Orwellian arc was some brilliant writing.

SHOCK! Chevy Chase is a dickhead. Says he "probably won't be around that much longer" on Community.

I'm amazed he's made it this long. The "Chevy's a dick" mantra has been around for 30+ years, and the cast doesn't really try to hide their animosity towards him in tweets and interviews. Deadline has more on what went down with him and Harmon on the last day of shooting. He sounds completely unprofessional, and probably ought to be fired for walking off the set and leaving cast and crew in the lurch (repeatedly). I can't say I agree with Harmon's decision to lead a "fuck you, Chevy" chant in front of the guy's wife and daughter though.

I agree with Chase that the show has drifted away from its community college theme, but how sustainable was the premise, really? It's evolved into a thing of it's own. The best writing for Pierce was definitely during the first season, and he's more of an annoyance than anything else now. If season four happens, I can't see any way they bring him back, and I don't think he'll be missed. I just hope they find a creative way to kill him. Best case scenario: the group misses his presence and decides they need to replace him with another old curmudgeon; enter Bill Murray.

Harmon has been saying that he wants Murray, but only as Jeff's dad.

Finally watched last week's episode and you gotta hand it to Subway for being pretty fearless when it came to the product placement! Britta as ever this season got the best of everything, but I liked the bizarre gag of Pierce drinking pens

And my DVR cut off the closing credits halfway through, what was the payoff to Goodman talking about his nefarious plans?

Weirdly enough, there was no payoff. He just put on a hat and walked away. I think the point of his rambling on is there was no point?
By the way, I agree with you wholeheartedly about the pens. I laughed out loud every single time I saw Pierce's black geisha gums.

I thought he pulled out a trumpet or something and then said "I'll see you at band practice."

You 're right, he did. He put on a hat, pulled out a trumpet and said he was going to band practice. Still not much of a punchline, though.
