Kull seems like an obvious result of a catalog re-issue/generation cycle, which is approximately every 7-8 years.

The time between releases varies a lot from film to film.
Kull was released on DVD, VHS, and laser 16 years ago when it was a new release. And there are surely many Universal properties that they'll never get around to releasing on Blu-ray, just like there are some they never even released on DVD.
One of our former members even compiled a list of them some years back.

Yeah, that's an 'out of left field' announcement there; didn't expect that to get a Blu-ray upgrade.

It was on HD DVD and never upgraded to blu. Other films released on HD DVD by Universal and not on blu in region A -
Accepted (2006), American Me (1992), Balls of Fury (2007), Breach (2006), Carlito's Way: Rise to Power (2005), Dead Silence (2007) (released in UK), Evening (2007), For Love of the Game (1999), The Getaway (1994), Half Baked (1998), Hollywoodland (2006) (released in UK), In Good Company (2004) (released in Germany), The Interpreter (2005) (released in UK), Midnight Run (1988), Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007) (released in UK), Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps (2000), Patch Adams (1998), The Pianist (2002) (released in UK), The River (1984), Sneakers (1992) (released in UK), Streets of Fire (1984) (released in UK), Talk to Me (2007) (released in UK), The War (1994), The Wedding Date (2005)
So expect any of them released on blu at anytime..

Also, while they have Region A releases, Universal has yet to release US BDs of The Hitcher (2007), Slither (2006), and White Noise 2

Never wished for any of those, which may help explain why I never got into HD-DVD.

I really want Streets of Fire to hit Blu-ray. I'd get it from England, but I intend to lend it to several non-all region people.

It's also worth noting that US rights for The Getaway (1994) have moved to Warner.

I omit these because they were released in in Canada/Region A territory.

Munich, Sneakers and the Andromeda Strain are announced for February (Bestbuy exclusives, so far)... but great news nonetheless for Munich in particular.

That and Sneakers are a nice one-two punch for me. The Paper and Midnight Run still remain.

Imitation of Life 1959 is also planned for a BD release in France (via Elephant Films). I hope the master is better than the one used for the German BD, which doesn't seem to look good at all.

Imitation of Life is playing at Film Forum in a brand new 4k restoration. Very disappointed it's not coming from Criterion.
Of course, if they lavish the attention on it that they lavished on Touch of Evil/Double Indemnity, I will be thrilled.

That's pathetic. I was really hoping Criterion would get this one.

The majors seem to have ramped up catalogue for blu ray, which is something the masses want. Some studios will do a good job (WB, SONY and Fox), the others will be hit or miss (mostly miss). it's a catch-22, though, as the films will be less available to the likes of Criterion. Although, there is only so much CC can put out without increasing their own production.
