The Twilight Time Blu-ray of Leave Her to Heaven showcases a superb digital restoration of this 3-Strip Technicolor film. I've seen original IB Tech prints and can say with enthusiasm that the disc makes Heaven look as good, if not better. In 1945 Technicolor still had a slightly unreal intensity to its hues, with warm face tones and (at 20th Fox) strong blues and greens. What would prove the perfect medium for candy-colored musicals sometimes seemed a bit much for ordinary narrative pictures, but seems entirely appropriate for this hyper-intense morbid soap opera. Tierney and Wilde, probably buried in makeup and carefully lit in close-ups, look amazing. The older DVD only hinted at the film's original look but this Blu-ray nails it.

Turner Classic Movies review of Leave Her to Heaven
The feast of color, melodrama and obsession that is Leave Her to Heaven (1945) was released as a good-looking DVD by Fox in 2004. Now the Twilight Time label has produced a beautiful, high-definition version on Blu-ray, a format that serves this classic melodrama extremely well. Even though the original Technicolor elements of the film no longer exist (as is the case with many Fox titles of the era), Fox technicians have worked from existing Eastmancolor safety prints to produce a still-great-looking color scheme.

Re: Twilight Time
Have you tried switching it on and off again? (seriously, this worked for me for the one disc this happened on). If not, check your firmware is up to date.R0lf wrote:I have the same problem. I have the same problem! The Leave Her to Heaven Blu-ray is dead on arrival. In fact none of the three Blu-rays I purchased from Twilight Time (LHTH, The Big Heat, Bonjour Tristesse) will play once I get to the menu. Rebooting the player doesn't help. I've never had this happen before with any Blu-rays that I've purchased.R0lf wrote:I have the same problem. I will bring them in to work to test them there, as well.

Hmmmm, that's odd. All my TT discs play fine on my Oppo 103. It must be your player.jsteffe wrote:I have the same problem! The Leave Her to Heaven Blu-ray is dead on arrival. I can't get Cinema Guild titles to play on my Momitsu (and a few TTs and CCs; thankfully no region B titles have fallen prey to this!), but they work fine on my PS3. Its probably your player.

Re: Twilight Time
I'm sure that it's player-specific, but it's also worth noting that no other Blu-rays besides these have ever given me problems. I will be buying a new player over the next few months, so I won't return the discs on the assumption that I will be able to play them in the future. However, these are the last Twilight Time titles that I will ever purchase for myself. I don't need the headache.Anthony wrote: Hmmmm, that's odd. All my TT discs play fine on my Oppo 103. Re: Twilight Time
Twilight Time's disc menus have some serious player compatibility issues. I have four different Blu-Ray players, two of which will not play Twilight Time discs because of this. They'll load the menu screen, but then leave you unable to select anything (or to bypass the menu). My other two players play them without a hitch. It would be nice if they would resolve this, as it's particularly annoying to sit down for a movie only to have to get up and switch out players.

Re: Twilight Time
When the menu screen comes up, you might try pressing stop, pressing 1 on your remote, and then pressing ENTER/OK (whichever your remote has). On some players, this allows you to bypass the menu and jump directly to the main feature.

Re: Twilight Time
So what players won't they work on?
I just bought my first TT discs in the last two weeks and have yet to try it out, but when I get a chance I'll let you guys know how they run on two different sony players.

Re: Twilight Time
Gotta emphasize - make sure your player firmware is up to date. I've seen people on message boards (not here) complain about compatibility issues and yet refuse to update their FW which may very well fix the issue on their player. No absolute guarantee, but it does resolve a LOT of issues for several discs.

Obviously he's added the deleted male frontal nudity from "The Last Picture Show" to "At Long Last Love".

Re: Twilight Time
Pretty sure that's a typo. filmratings.com still has it as Rated G with no update. If it had been re-rated it would be on the website.domino harvey wrote:Interesting tidbit from the Fox press release for At Long Last Love:

Definitely getting this one too. There's something about Edna May Oliver's performance that will be even better in HD. She's probably my favorite of all the Ford women I've seen.AlexHansen wrote:Hmm I suppose DRUMS will be my 2nd TT purchase.
