Amazon.com will have an exclusive release called The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki and it contains Lupin the Third, The Castle of Cagliostro, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and The Wind Rises. There still no price for the set yet.

But the highlight for those who already own all of these films on Blu-ray will be the set’s bonus features, including Yuki no Taiyo (Yuki’s Sun) — a 1972 television pilot based on a manga by Tetsuya Chiba that was directed, storyboarded and animated by Hayao Miyazaki. The set also contains three episodes (26, 27, and 41) of the 1972 anime series Akado Suzunosuk (Little Samurai), featuring storyboards by the filmmaker. Fans will also get the uncut version of Miyazaki’s Retirement Press Conference, which was thankfully not the final page in his career. The whole package is rounded off with a book featuring The Great Dichotomy: Looking at the Works of Hayao Miyazaki by Tomohiro Machiyama, which “explores the themes and techniques of this revered Japanese filmmaker, and selected text from Hayao Miyazaki’s initial notes and creative proposals for the production of each film.”

The new US Blu of Spirited Away apparently has dubtitles (as people feared it might). So, what is the best (and cheapest, if possible) Blu version? I hate paying Japanese Blu prices if there is any reasonable alternative...

The boxed set is $250 and since it's an Amazon exclusive, it will likely not be heavily discounted beyond that

If you set it (Spirited Away) as a Japanese soundtrack and English (not English SDH) subtitled, it's a more direct translation.

Still not confirmed whether the US set will mirror the Japanese and UK boxsets which dropped all previous bonus features from the individual discs, or if it will be like the Australian discs and include all the older extras and have the exclusive boxset extras.

But the disc art looks to be the same as the individual releases, so maybe they will be the same discs.
Interesting to see what the "Lupin" disc is, as it has completely different looking artwork compared to the recently released Discotek release.

Great news about a Blu release. I've seen GKids' 35mm print, but I assume that it's getting a DCP rollout.

On the subtitle Setup, English is the translation track from the original DVD, and English SDH is for the hard-of-hearing people who want to know what the Disney dub is saying.
English SDH usually defaults, so it's the first track most people get when they hit the "Subtitle" button on their remote, and then complain that the SDH "Dubtitle" is all they're getting. (Doyyy... #-o )
Most anime disks from other companies don't even bother with a separate "dubtitle" track anymore, since, well, if you were hard of hearing, why would you want to know what the dub was saying?--You're going to need subtitles anyway, as it's not like the Japanese track is going to be confusing for you.

And as for the second Kiki dub, the original '97 VHS dub, with the extra Phil Hartman additions, was made before Disney's deal with Ghibli, and the "No cuts" clause in the contract applied to "No additions", as well. Too bad, as even Hartman's new lines were perfect for Jiji.

Tragically, it WON'T include "On Your Mark", which Japan has now de-historized because of Chage & Asuka's drug scandal.

Hartman's Jiji was fine -- in the abstract -- for a Disney film -- but not a good representation of the character as presented in the original.

I know there are a lot of us kids-at-heart who appreciate a direct translation, but I think it's reasonable to make editorial decisions when translating these films. I'm very please that they did away with the extra dialogue, which went a step too far, but I feel that trying to make a localization like this overly faithful can kill the spirit of the thing. It's a fine line.

It wasn't just the wording, but perhaps even more the _tone_ of his characterization -- which turned Jiji into a rather typical Disney animal sidekick -- which was nothing like the original Miyazaki character. A lot more there than simple "localization".

In Japan it was released to owners of the boxset, by mail order for free, so it was not erased at all, just postponed.

On Your Mark was always my least favorite Studio Ghibli effort...

GKIDS has been the theatrical distributor for the Ghibli catalog for a few years, but they now have the home video rights too.

The initial wave will be Miyazaki-only, but on Facebook they make it sound like they’ll be releasing the rest (including My Neighbors the Yamadas) over the next few months.

GKIDS is excited to announce that we have acquired home entertainment rights to the Studio Ghibli catalog, and will be re-releasing titles in new Blu-ray and DVD editions starting this October! We will be releasing 8 titles in October, including My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and more, with new releases each month through early 2018. (And yes, that includes Yamadas on Blu-ray!)

Yep, we have acquired and are re-releasing what are diplomatically called "the catalog titles" but could also be better understood as "the Disney titles," starting with the eight most popular in October, to ensure we had them out in time for the holidays, and then doing ~2 a month through end of March until they are all back in circulation.

Transfers will be based on same masters but have undergone new and separate QC process, and bonus will match the Japanese Blurays, except for the Japanese script.

Does it mean that you will have the commentary track on Nausicaa?

Yeah, the commentary track and the separate interview will both be on it.

Awesome. Also, Nausicaa has two Japanese releases, one with extras and one with MGVC encoded video. The two transfers are quite different. Do you know which one you are going to use?

Any chance of adding extras? I'm thinking specifically of the 6 1/2 hour long making-of documentary for Princess Mononoke, which I would also gladly purchase as a separate DVD if Ghibli prohibited including it in the same release for some reason.

It would also be fantastic to see 'On Your Mark', 'Yuki's Sun' and the hour long conversation between Miyazaki and Akira Kurosawa.
