I can see Cria! being released by Criterion, but I think we will see a Eclipse set of his films.

They also made a big deal out of the Beastie Boys being number 100. Also, as I've said before, John Cassavetes box was number 250, which is pretty goddamn big.

I've been meaning to post this link for ages,
so here it is.
It's an extensively searchable catalogue of the last 75 years of BBC broadcasts, by programme contributors and topics as well as title, so go wild and see what possible documentary and interview supplements (radio as well as TV, don't forget) could make it onto future releases.

When I did a search for Arena episodes it reminded me how many great director profiles they did. I remember watching the Visconti 2-parter in 2003. It is well worth looking through each year of Arena episodes if you haven't already.

this run of programmes from the late 1960s. Unbelievable. (They already included the episode on Josef von Sternberg on their otherwise passable version of
The Scarlet Empress but there's
so much more.)

With Pigs and Battleships and Intentions of Murder probably assured proper Criterion releases, I'm curious as to which Imamura films will be forthcoming from Eclipse. I also wonder who has the rights to A Man Vanishes since Imamura Productions, not Janus, is listed on the BAM/PFA page.

It would have been a nice assurance to see A Man Vanishes along with Black Rain listed with Janus/Criterion, but we just have to wait and see.

With the Paramount deal rapidly bearing fruit, what does everyone think of the possibility that Malle's Atlantic City would get a Criterion release?

With the exception of ANDRE, I feel like Malle's American films were a major step down for him, especially ATLANTIC CITY. I'm a fan of much of Malle's other works, so tell me what I'm missing.

As I've mentioned before, I doubt that the Paramount deal includes any titles that have already been released by the studio. Besides, Criterion still has half a dozen Malle films that they already own the rights to that need to be released. I doubt that they're looking to pay hefty licensing fees to add any more.

I agree that Malle in the U.S. was a big disappointment. Although I loved Atlantic City long ago, I find it irritating now. An overwritten, stale piece of filmmaking...

I was glancing over the forthcoming list, and noticed that for the first time in a while we don't have anything we know for sure will be announced this month. The closest we've got is Drunken Angel and Cria!, but those have only really been confirmed as "mid 2007" and "late summer." Nothing on record for August. Anybody got any theories, or had any recent questions answered?
