Don't worry- the kestrel will just see a series of discrete images, and not a moving picture.

I don't dare ask who was invited to LQ's first screening of Antichrist.

I believe his favorite films (in order) are The Elephant Man ("You know exactly what you're going to get"), Kes, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Oddly enough, that film came to mind when looking at these new bluray screencaps, especially the exteriors.

What a truly sad film.

Just finished watching this film. Mind-blowingly beatiful and sad. I didn't know Criterion's blu-ray is the result of a thorough restoration, and the Oneg was scanned at 6K resolution(!) according to the 'About the Transfer' section in the booklet. I thought only big Hollywood catalog titles get that kind of treatment these days, but I'm utterly grateful this little British gem is well preserved with state-of-the-art technologies and under the supervision of its own makers.

Cathy Come Home is still too relevant.

Comparison of Criterion Blu-ray and MGM PAL R2 DVD

Rarely has a new transfer been so radically superior to previous presentations.

Have to admit that I was shocked at how compelling this was. In addition to serving up one of the most painful cinematic gut punches in the end, it also provided a lot of austere beauty and serenity in the scenes where Billy is training Kes. I didn't see the end coming at all though, and it left me a broken man who wanted to find ole Jud and castrate the bastard and then shove 16 quid up his arse. One of the most enthralling and moving films i've ever seen.

And the footy scene is also one of the funniest i've ever seen. When the teacher took a dive and called a penalty I nearly did a spit take and had to rewind it. part of the fascinating tapestry of this town and the school - though I can't say there could have been much hope for any of those kids if that was an honest representation of the faculty in these towns. Just brutal.
