I've been meaning to write more about this film in the "The Disentigrating Comedy" thread, but I think for the film to work, you really need to look at it as Bringing Up Baby taken to it's logical extremes.

Dvd Savant reports that this one is coming from MGM Limited edition collection,.release date is Dec.20th.At the moment there's only one amazon.com review, reviewer thinks it's a Demme movie. This would have been an excellent choice for Criterion.

SOMETHING WILD, the Demme version, will aptly be playing in tandem with AFTER HOURS on 12/11 at BAM.

I just watched this today and I loved it. One of the best films to come out of the '80s. The 13 year old transfer stil looks good but I'd really love to see this get a 4k someday.

A 4K UHD is apparently forthcoming from French label Bubbel Pop' Édition (who recently did the Carol 4K) by the end of this month.

It'll be an upscale of the Criterion master, made with tools powered by AI (yes). Think of what was done in France on The Rules of the Game or 1984.

They'll also perform color corrections (and gave 0 precision about which reference they'll use to regrade this DoP + Director approved master).

Damn that sucks, especially since Something Wild is in dire need of a new master. I do hope that Criterion will do a proper 4k restoration soon.
