Whatever misgivings I have with the film itself, the supplemental material on this release makes it worth the price of admission. A fantastic release!

Béla Tarr approved the color grade of the Sátántangó restoration this week. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before we hear about a release.

They're probably going to tour Sátántangó before they release the bluray/DVD.

I agree. All we have to go on so far is "early 2019" for the restoration tour, so a Q2 Blu-ray release would be likely.

By the way, Belladonna of Sadness dropped from $40 back to its rightful $20 on Amazon today, so jump on that if you want to ensure a reasonably-priced copy.

How long was their process for The Last Movie?

It looks like Sept of 2017 was when Arbelos announced The Last Movie was getting a restoration and a release. You can figure out the timeframe from that.

Last January Arbelos announced Satantango was coming. But Satantango is a 7 hour film so more work and time was probably needed.

They finished the grading of The Last Movie in May, it premiered at Il Cinema Ritrovato in June, US theatrical roll-out from August, and then Blu-Ray release in November. Quite a quick turnaround.

Let's see if it shows at Canne in May, unless there is a festival sooner than that.

For anybody who might be interested in Gangs of Wasseypur
The Arbelos site says that it’s going out of print and they’re selling their last copies or MSRP $39.99. At Amazon used copies are $150 and new copies are $195.

Same thing with the Agnès Varda set, although that's listed at $50.

I emailed Arbelos during Black Friday about any other releases potentially going OOP (the Varda set was announced then as such), but they said nothing else was at risk. I suppose that's changed.

About the Satantango restoration. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait till 2020 for the Blu-ray. :( :( :(

Mutual Appreciation coming to Blu-ray

EDIT Includes an essay by Damien Chazelle!

After years of hearing how horrid mumblecore is and hating the one Swanberg film I saw, I tried Bujalski's Support the Girls and Funny Ha Ha and found both great, so I'm down for more!

Just a neat fact that may hold some bearing, Chazelle worked as a post-production assistant on Bujalski's follow-up to Mutual Appreciation, Beeswax.

As I said in the Support the Girls thread, Mutual Appreciation is on the shortlist with the Color Wheel and In Search of a Midnight Kiss (which isn’t even available in the US in the right color) of actually good Mumblecore movies, so this is great news.

I would add The Puffy Chair, Nights And Weekends, & Quiet City.

I love Beeswax and Support the Girls (which is stretching mumblecore admittedly), and enjoy quite a bit Hannah Takes the Stairs and Funny Ha Ha myself.

Re: Mumblecore, I would very much second the Bujalski films but also PfR73's mention of Aaron Katz's Quiet City from 2007, though I would also add in Katz's debut film Dance Party, USA from 2006.

Though I should admit that I was left rather cold by The Puffy Chair and much prefer the mumblecore films that are about tone and environment than ones that try to add too much in the way of concrete plot and characterisation, when they slide from mumblecore too far into general 'indie film' for me!

Oh my god. That is WONDERFUL news. I know a number of the folks at Arbelos/Cinelicious were previously affiliated with the L.A. nonprofit Cinefamily,
which worked hard to show a beautiful 35mm print of Son of the White Mare a number of years back, and even tried to fly the Jankovics out from Hungary
