This isn't the case, at least from the consensus lists I've seen and general response from the critics I follow.Trees wrote:Yes, that's a ridiculous, childish argument to make "no one" can rationally say that "Revenant" is better than "Mad Max". Many members of this forum have listed "Revenant" above "Mad Max", as have many critics, and soon many Academy voters.

Ugh, I'm so tired of this. No one gives a crap about the historical accuracy of, say, Shakespeare's Henry V. At their core narrative films are entertainment, no matter how sobering or based on real life their source material.domino harvey wrote:This was also the subject of the latest BackStory podcast for their annual look at the historical accuracy of each year's Oscar nominees

They'd all be wrong, of course.Trees wrote:Yes, that's a ridiculous, childish argument to make "no one" can rationally say that "Revenant" is better than "Mad Max". Many members of this forum have listed "Revenant" above "Mad Max", as have many critics, and soon many Academy voters.
I didn't click on the link because I find Slate horrid but lately I have found any journalist that doesn't get paid to write about movies has terrible taste. I follow many on Twitter and while I respect their opinions on social justice, economics, and health care, etc when it comes to movies their opinions leave a lot to be desired.

The endless wide angle steady cam wound up looking like the GoPro demo reel at REI, not Malick. The bear rape was nicely executed, but otherwise this was a crushing bore.

My #2 pick for film of 2015 after Mad Max, just Edging out Star Wars.
8/10 for me. I'm glad I have the bluray because I can see myself revisiting it and getting lost in this film often.
