Gilda
The Graduate
Inside Llewyn Davis
Paris Belongs to Us
Shameless guesses that will seemingly never come to the Criterion Collection:
Beyond the Hills

It doesn't have a Special Edition. I could totally see Criterion putting one out.

I think they will put it out, just not this soon as it seems their relationship with Fox means they have to wait 3 years before releasing a title.
I'm quite sure Fincher did all the behind-the-scenes stuff he normally does for his work on that film. My first thought when I read the Fox disc was only including a commentary is that he's holding back that material for a Criterion (or less likely, a Fox special edition) release.

Of course I always forget the waiting period on Fox titles. But it is great to see someone else not so surprised at the prospect. Makes perfect sense to me

It doesn't make sense at all. It's Fincher's most successful movie to date and if there's a special edition in the pipeline, loaded with extras, it will come through Fox and Fox only.

This. How many 21st century films that have grossed over 100 million dollars subsequently joined the Criterion Collection?
Traffic and
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button come to mind, but not any others, making it highly unlikely that Fox will share the home video rights of
Gone Girl with another organization. Furthermore, I also can't think of a 21st century Fox title that has entered the collection, aside from a couple of Wes Anderson's films, which shouldn't count considering it's speculated that Wes Anderson has some sort of contractual agreement with the organization.

It just doesn't feel likely to me that they would, because it wasn't a summer tentpole success which any major studio would re-release sometimes with new special features. It seems more rare now for a studio to put out a new edition of a relatively recent film anymore anyway. And his process with the DVD/Blu releases of the last several films of his was to do all the special features during production, with the first edition being the one with the most features. That's definitely the case with the four films prior to Gone Girl, including one that was released by Criterion.

Agree. There's just not enough of a market for packaged media SEs of non-franchise adult dramas anymore. In 2 years, hardly anybody but the Fincher die-hards are even going to remember that
Gone Girl exists. Licencing it to Criterion -- who could sell copies both to the Fincher die hards and the Criterion die hards, and at a premium price point -- would make sense.
My guesses:
The Graduate
Clouds of Sils Maria
Blue is the Warmest Color SE
War Trilogy
The Last Picture Show (standalone)

Really looking forward to revisiting the wrongness of this statement in two years.

Eh, maybe. I was being slightly hyperbolic, but I can't really see a situation where Fox would get a lot of response to
Gone Girl outside of a major opening weekend/Oscar marketing push, which it's not going to do for a home video release.

Really? Does that mean I should go ahead and buy the existing? (Or watch on Netflix with the hideous yellow subs?)

It's possible it's been shelved certainly, but criterion.com still has the same explanation text they've always had that a full SE is coming.

Yeah, maybe don't listen to me. I can't find the article where I might have read that. It might have just been an off-the-cuff remark from someone on here.

I think you're really underestimating how successful Gone Girl was, as a book and film.

I would say all bets are off if the sequel is written as rumored and everyone comes back for a film adaptation.
