Well-written reviews:
https://deepfocusreview.com/

French-language resource:
https://www.cnc.fr/ - site for the Centre National du cinema et de l´image animée

For example, in the search box (top right) write "film title" or "director´s name" and "dossier", and press the manifying glass to search. Search sometimes gives links to well-written "dossiers pédagogiques" (study guides) for a specific film, sometimes two guides for one film, aimed at different levels of study.
Example:
https://www.cnc.fr/recherche?keywords=400+coups+dossier - two dossiers for Les 400 Coups (Truffaut) - to download, press "télécharger"

Also, in the search box, write "Aide sélective à la numérisation des œuvres cinématographiques du patrimoine" (selective aids for digitalization of French works of cinema) and press magnifying glass, to search for lists (usually one or two per year) of grants given by CNC towards digital restorations of selected French films.

Is DVD-Basen gone for good? The site hasn't worked for a while.

Sadly, over a year later I think we have to assume that this is indeed the case.
