Adams has also been nominated four times in Best Supporting Actress and all were Oscar-worthy perfs. She is extremely well-liked and well-regarded in the industry, and it's only a matter of time til she wins, either on merits or sentiment

Re: Awards Season 2016
I always hate divulging my age on forums as people always will then use it as an excuse to win an argument, but I'm 20 and didn't imply you were naive or anything. And I was just hate when characters yell at the camera expressing everything they feel with a loud voice rather than a look or other visual ways (so no surprise I loved Carol, and Haynes for me is a much more interesting and intelligent than inaritu).
Regarding Adams, sadly her only now was for American Hustle and though I dislike that too she was by far the only interesting and by far the only good thing in that film except perhaps costumes and hair.
But her supporting norms along other not nominated roles were all terrific, which reminds me I still have Junebug to see.
And she should have won for The Master. Just saying

Happy 30th next week, mfunk! Does this mean you'll stop using the internet now just like domino did?

Thanks swo! I, on the other hand, have no qualms about divulging my age. I'm currently fretting over Hurricane Hermine's effect on mine and LQ's ability to fly to Paris on Sunday night to celebrate our 30th birthday.swo17 wrote:Happy 30th next week, mfunk! I'm sure you're right. However, I doubt her performance in a science fiction film will get her the coveted gold statue. But, you never know.domino harvey wrote:Adams has also been nominated four times in Best Supporting Actress and all were Oscar-worthy perfs. I'm 25. I love Carol. Easily one of the best lesbian films ever made. But, I don't want to go back-and-forth with you, and derail the thread any further than I already have. You don't like Innaritu, that's fine. I don't want to push you to like him. Luckily for you, he won't be receiving any awards this year.

To be fair, he only kept using it to sing the praises of Alejandro González Iñárritu

How many of his films have been distributed theatrically? Most of them have gone straight to TV, and he's got 3 Emmys.Ribs wrote:I, er, wow, am very surprised that Wiseman, a man who has bafflingly never been nominated for an Oscar, is being rewarded. Obviously it's long overdue and very very deserved but seems like a really odd pull.

A few especially recently. Also Documentary has more lenient rules about what is eligible which is how a number of made for television docs have been nominated.

I've only been familiar with Wiseman in his relatively recent theatrical, wider-ish limited distribution phase, but even still I don't understand why something like In Jackson Heights couldn't muster any enthusiasm for any kind of nomination talk at all.

Gee thanks for the warm welcomes... Forgot that I created this username ages ago
What was the longest nominated documentary? I think his fly on the wall plus the lengthy run time didn't really help his chances. He's not the only great documentarian to never got nominated...
Steve James never was and the Maysles received a nominal in short documentary

Nocturnal Animals just premiered at Venice and it appears that Amy Adams has two serious Oscar contenders this year. The Telegraph compared her performance there to "peak-form Nicole Kidman".

I think it's stupid that writers and directors can compete against themselves, but not actors. Too bad Adams can't be nominated twice in the same category

Re: Awards Season 2016
Amy Adams has been my favorite actress ever since Junebug & I would really like to see her finally win an Oscar. Since Nocturnal Animals is also getting a positive response, I think what could happen is she gets officially nominated for that film (thus avoiding the sci-fi stigma), but the combination with Arrival helps her win. I believe this is what happened last year with Alicia Vikander getting nominated and winning for The Danish Girl, but probably due to a lot of help from Ex-Machina.cinéaste25 wrote:I'm sure you're right. Unless vote splitting prevents either role from being nominated. Are there any big examples of this having happened?

Re: Awards Season 2016
Recently the campaigns seem to have begun strategizing in order to prevent that kind of canceling-out. In 2009 when Kate Winslet had The Reader and Revolutionary Road, the Weinstein Co. decided to push her for Lead Actress for the former film (even though she had won a Golden Globe for that role in Supporting), while her campaign for the latter film was all but suspended (even though she had also won a Golden Globe for that in Lead) when it became clear that The Reader was gaining more traction. I'm still not sure how this gets worked out, since rival studios are often mounting the campaigns (do they talk to each other and decide who to push, and in what category? Does the actor have any say in this decision?) I can't even remember last year whether Vikander was being heavily pushed for Ex Machina as well as The Danish Girl, or whether the Ex Machina campaign backed off so that she could throw all of her weight behind Danish Girl.
My favorite piece of multiple-nomination trivia has to be Barry Fitzgerald being up for Best Actor and Supporting Actor for the same role in Going My Way (!), and winning in the latter category.
