The two new docs look promising.

"We all know that Linklater's films take place over time, as evidenced by these shots where he included a clock in the background..."

". . . and as we watch the films, we are constantly reminded that a watch is a time/piece."

Too bad they don't include a snippet from Waking Life with two characters...

They're pretty likely to release Waking Life down the road anyway.

They should've staggered individual releases with Sunrise on Valentine's Day, Sunset the 21st and Midnight the 28th with the option to buy the box with Midnight.

They should have spaced out the releases by seven years between each of them, and then make a making of about how it took 21 years to make these releases.

Looking forward to the Tsangari piece, was hoping they would elicit a contribution from her. I always welcome filmmaker-on-filmmaker features, though I echo just about everyone else in saying kogo no thanks.

That and the audio commentary look most promising supplements to me.

There's a pricing error on amazon, if you want this you can snag it for $39.95

Again? It seems every new box gets mispriced on Amazon. I picked Lone Wolf for the same price

1) RE: "it took twelve years to make": Old joke is old =p =D

2) I guess Jesse and Celine's segment in Waking Life can be called "Before Waking".

3) Likewise, their Alamo Drafthouse "No Talking No Text" PSA can be called "Before Feature Presentation"

4) I remember this remark when Richard Linklater was promoting Boyhood in the UK when asked if there's going to be a "Manhood"/sequel to Boyhood (I cannot seem to find it at the moment): he joked that "Manhood" would start with Mason, seeking to shake up his life, has abandoned photography, pursued writing, and takes a train ride through Europe. When approaching Vienna, he meets a French woman ... =D

(It has been pointed out that Ellar Coltrane could look like Ethan Hawke's son ... I'm sure the Julie Delpy can be found in him somewhere ... after all, if Patricia Arquette could pull it off =] )

5) The Brattle did a marathon session with all three films playing and that was the first time I saw any of them ... and that was honestly the best way to view them.

As excited as I am for this release I'm sad to see that all of Criterion's writing about the box set really makes it look like there will not be a fourth film. ("Three-part romance," "bittersweet conclusion," etc.) I suppose we don't know for sure whether the series is over for good--maybe Linklater doesn't even know for sure; I believe the second and third films were not necessarily planned--but Criterion does not seem to think this is a possibility or they would have tempered some of that language.

Could be they want to prevent people to think there might be an updated boxset later on (like TV shows bundle).

This is director approved mind you. But yes, it is still uncertain. After all, there may be some continuation of Boyhood in some form or another. Plus, I have not heard from either Hawke or Delpy one way or the other.

Thanks! Got it, now hoping they honor that price instead of cancelling.

Yes, to the point where I forgot I preordered it and bought a second copy at B&N

I'm a huge fan of these films - and I'm saying films because I don't want to jinx anything by calling it a trilogy. I want more and I think there is plenty more fuel in the tank yet.
The films are as episodic as the medium could ever allow - in that each film, whilst it's own in each right, serves more as epsiodes to a greater story. A story that, like us, is aging every time we get the privilege of a new installment. It's a gorgeous treat and I often find myself wondering where Jesse and Celine are now.

I agree. Before Midnight has grown on me but I will be disappointed if it ends up being the end of Celine and Jesse's story. It doesn't have the sense of possibility and enchantment that the other films do (which I suppose is part of the point since Midnight is about the magic of a relationship wearing away, or at least changing, over time). I would love to see a fourth film in 2022 that finds a way to rekindle some of the romantic yearning and excitement of the first two.

Doubt it, Criterion rarely breaks up sets like this.
