Since I already have Criterion's Blu-ray, I'm hoping someone else releases a standalone UHD that either equals or betters Criterion's encode, in which case I can pick that up and have the best of both worlds.

does MGM hold this in the UK? if so, there's a decent shot that Arrow could put out their own version. if they go the non-Lynch-approved route, they could make a pretty compelling scholarly edition if they dared

Just watched Blue Velvet in honor of the Maestro and for the first time in 4K. I was not prepared for how stunning a presentation and encode this is. While watching the film, I felt immensely grateful for the extraordinary gifts Lynch gave us by being involved in the restorations of his films. They’re all brilliant and Blue Velvet is one of the most stunning, beautiful and film-like transfers I’ve ever seen. If you love the film, consider upgrading to the UHD as the HDR grade also does wonders in making the film look even more special. Criterion’s BD is one of their better ones and while the SDR grade comes close, the benefits of the HDR grade made me love the experience exactly that tiny extra bit more to completely fall in love with it.
