I wish I posted about this after I saw it at Metrograph almost ten years ago. There were probably a lot of specifics I could discuss in detail (they certainly came to mind at the time), but it's been too long. I went with two people who were fans and excited to see it, but it was a disappointment for me. Not without merit, but it felt too strained, and I vaguely recall some choices sabotaging the suspense for what were key setpieces in the original Clouzot film.

It's been a minute since seeing The Wages of Fear so I looked at the running time. It's over a half hour longer than Sorcerer which surprised me. The journey sequence must be longer in The Wages of Fear. I now wished I had seen the new restoration screened last year at the FF. I'm going to have to revisit it

Isn’t there like a good hour of material before they even hit the road in the Clouzot?

They indeed talk in cafes and have multiple discussions regarding the oil company. I love the global scope of Sorcerer

Yeah, there is. And you get more of the oil companies duplicity in TWOF. If I remember correctly. Which was somewhat neglected in Sorcerer
