Thrilled this is re-entering the landscape, no matter the company, and will get a Blu before the year is out. Great new poster, too.
Crash?
You're not wrong -- Crash is an undeniable envelope-pusher either in 1996 or 2021. I was thinking more of the early days of I Am Curious, WR, Sweet Movie, In the Realm of the Senses: unsimulated sexual acts in a film patently MPAA-unratable. Not to say that kind of thing is anathema to Criterion nowadays (if the long-rumored Pink Flamingos happens, no one'll be too surprised), but it's undeniably rarer. Vinegar Syndrome, among other labels (O-scope, clearly) exist now to shoulder some of that slack. I'm hopeful either/both of the Makavejevs make it to Blu one day, but I'll be shocked if it's with Criterion.
