He threw the hat next to the towel, narrowly missing the sponge. From the reports that are coming in, none of these items landed on the wagon.

He hasn't seen the wagon in a half century.

Unfortunately this is only Sony, so no chance of the set including a miniature scale model of Arabia.

The French deluxe edition is probably a pretty good preview of what the American set will include.
Translated French Supplements wrote:Special Deluxe Box
- BD disc 1: the movie
- BD Disc 2: More than an hour of "making of" + New interview with Peter O'Toole
- Photo book with storage for an exclusive third disc: a DVD composed entirely of exclusive footage (128 min)
- Map of Lawrence's voyage on parchment paper
- Book of original posters
In fact, since it's all in English and has American MPAA ratings on the discs, it probably is the American set pictured. Let's hope a smaller, cheaper release will be available too.

Still a possibility the restored "balcony scene" is included...

Probably 11/14/12 for release date.

Amazon France has updated the description:
2 hours of unreleased bonus material (including hour long making-of, exclusive interview with Peter O'Toole, featurettes, etc.)
Archival bonus material, including documentary "In Love with the Desert"
CD soundtrack
More than 50 page booklet
70mm film cell

Or that's what Google Translate told me.

Is this the same restoration of the film as contained in the big box? Looks like a better deal for those of us not into shelf-bending boxes.

Robert Harris on HTF says no balcony scene in the movie proper -- he doesn't rule it out as an extra.

That's the same cover art shown on the disc in the box set, so it's probably the same.

The press release says it's a 3-disc box set, but there are clearly 4 discs in that picture. What do you guess: movie BD + extras BD+ movie DVD + soundtrack CD?

Yep. It's the soundtrack. Someone over at HTF confirmed it.

I think it's actually movie BD + new extras BD + extras DVD of old supplements from previous releases now exclusive to this big box + soundtrack CD

All the discs in the picture have Blu-Ray logos on them, but that's likely just hasty mockup work.

The US premiere of the restoration is tonight, so hopefully we'll find out the balcony scene's fate tomorrow.

The bad news: The balcony scene will not be present in the restoration's theatrical run.

The good news (from hometheaterforum):
Grover Crisp: It seems like this is a good time to talk about the Balcony scene, mainly because it is being mentioned here on your thread and elsewhere. I guess now is as good a time as any to confirm that it will show up as a deleted scene on the box set when it comes out on November 13.

Robert A Harris: And this will be branched as an entire replacement unit of the sequence, correct?

GC: Yes.
More details on the scene's inclusion and restoration available here.

GC: There are inevitable mistakes when trying to carry on a conversation via email on the fly, and we just made one. Just to be very clear, the Balcony scene will be on the Blu-ray as a standalone deleted scene. You will not be able to branch to it and have it run seamlessly with the rest of the film. Very sorry for the confusion, and no doubt the resultant disappointment, this has caused.
As am I. At this point, I'm gonna throw in the towel and not fully trust any source until the BD is in my hands.

Here is what is in the Lawrence of Arabia Blu-ray Gift Set (stolen from thedigitalbits):
Disc One - the complete feature film (227-minute restored director's cut) with overture, intermission, entr'acte and exit music, newly re-mastered 5.1 English audio and the Secrets of Arabia: Picture-in-Graphic Track

Disc Two - Peter O'Toole Revisits Lawrence of Arabia (new interview), The Making of Lawrence of Arabia documentary, 5 featurettes (A Conversation with Steven Spielberg, The Camels Are Cast, In Search of Lawrence, Romance of Arabia and the 1970 version of Wind, Sand and Star: The Making of a Classic), Newsreel Footage of the New York Premiere and Advertising Campaigns material

Disc Three (exclusive to the Gift Set) - a never-before-released Deleted Scene with introduction by editor Anne Coates, The Lure of the Desert: Martin Scorsese on Lawrence of Arabia (new interview), 3 additional featurettes (In Love with the Desert, King Hussein Visits Lawrence of Arabia Scene and the original 1963 version of Wind, Sand and Star), Archival Interviews with William Friedkin, Sydney Pollack, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg and a gallery of trailers and TV spots (including the theatrical trailer, 2 teaser trailers, the 1989 70mm Restoration trailer and 2 TV spots)

Disc Four (exclusive to the Gift Set) - an exclusive Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack CD that includes the film's score plus 2 previously unreleased tracks
So, if you want the balcony scene you have to buy the Gift Set.

Stunning. To think that the Superbit DVD was considered reference quality in some quarters:

Did see the movie on a big single screen theater in the 1989 re-release shown in Chicago and can still remember how vivid and sharp the image looked and yes the Superbit dvd was the best looking of the film i have in my collection which includes the 2 Criterion and the various Columbia laserdisc releases and the Columbia dvd box set.

Saw the UK BD last night. The quality of the feature on the BD is gobsmacking throughout. (Discs 1 and 2 have been mislabelled (the film is on Disc 2)).

I hadn't seen the film for 20 years and "seen" doesn't amount to much when this sole viewing was on the TV and you've forgotten most of it.

Apart from O'Toole's incredible performance and the ridiculously beautiful photography and direction, I'm not an enormous fan of the film, but I really enjoyed the Blu-ray.

The god-awful-to-view-and-navigate "Secrets of Arabia: Picture-in-Graphic Track extra" imparts Wikipedia factoids at a deathly snail's pace. Only large studios that live in a vacuum think this sort of extra is the best way to present information. (It is reportedly the longest film not to have any dialog spoken by a woman, and the only female in the film is apparently a camel called Gladys.)

LOA: Yowsa! 4K restoration viewed this evening in Twin Cities, Minnesota. Gorgeous as reported, but sound wasn't "cranked" enough. Still, thrilling. Sadly, the showing was poorly advertised (as in NOT), so maybe only 75-100 people in attendance. But it was a joy to sit with an audience that paid rapt attention, obviously enthralled, and applauded at the end. Very much looking forward to the US blu ray like everyone else here! \:D/
