I always thought he was one of the Savage brothers, as in the Wonder Years Fred and Boy Meets World Ben. He is now starring in the Rear Window wannabe knockoff, Disturbia. Judging by his appereance recently at SNL, he is not much of an acting prodigy.

Though to be fair, judging any actor by their SNL appearance, given the show's thorough shittiness these days, isn't entirely fair.

I've only seen Shia LeBeouf in his small role in Constantine which isn't really much to judge him by and I'm mostly just heard his name bandied about for the past year or two, so I'm really quite indifferent to his actual casting.

What does bother me about the casting is that this already needless sequel, is most likely going to be some kind of retread of Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (huh, I guess that title is somewhat superfluous now) territory retread without the cool hunt for the grail, and probably really terrible "generational" humor, ie. Indiana Jones And The Wacky Family Vacation.

This is about as bad an idea as giving James Bond a son. I can just picture LeBouf rebelling against his father, annoyed at the shadow of the man, ect., ect., until at the end they reconcile and he takes over his father's role of archaeologist/adventurer. Look for lots of over-the-shoulder witticisms between father and son during fight scenes. I don't quite understand why Indiana Jones is no longer large enough of a figure to stand at the centre of his own movies.

This news reminds me of one of Tobias' lines from Arrested Development: "Well it just makes me want to vomit all over your head, sir."

LaBeouf is pretty good in Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, although the film itself fairly stinks.

I don't think it matters who you cast, the whole idea of the role is misconceived. But then Indy died in 1984 anyway.

According to aintitcool the title is INDIANA JONES & THE CITY OF GODS. Could be worse I guess, and the title suggests the film being closer to RAIDERS and CRUSADE than TEMPLE OF DOOM. Unlike many here, I'm looking forward to this, although bringing the son in is really a terrible idea.

I think the best way to answer whether Lucas did the right thing or not, aside from watching what Indy IV will be like, is releasing Darabont's script, but Spielberg confirmed that won't happen... unless it's leaked, of course, which, if it is, will probably happen only after the release of Indy IV.

Doesn't Lucas own Indy, anyway? There's really nothing Spielberg can do, and since they're friends, why tarnish the relationship over a script to a third sequal, of all things? We're not talking Schindler's List here. And, I don't know, should Indy really be going after UFOs? "You call this archaeology!?" Unless it connected dots to the pyramids or something, which actually would be cool. But what's the whip for, then?

Or maybe Darabont was allowed to go full force on his script, being the fan that he is, and do anything he wanted... so maybe he didn't dig the whole idea of the son. Maybe George has plans to spin the series off, somehow. I guess they'll gauge the charisma of the actor, and go from there. But wasn't the TV series, enough, in that regard?

When did Frank Darabont become a respected screenwriter? Yes, The Shawshank Redemption was a nice film, but Darabont is highly overrated given his miniscule output that is largely adaptations of Stephen King writings. As for Spielberg, he's certainly worked on his fair share of films with questionable scripts (War Of The Worlds, A.I.) so whether or not he "liked" Darabont's script means very little.

I think Darabont is just more pissed that he spent a year of his time on a script that was ultimately dismissed by someone who has very little artistic credibility.

As for why Spielberg would allow himself to be vetoed by Lucas, your guess is as good as mine.

Darabont's reputation as a screenwriting genius has always confused me too. My best guess is that he does all sorts of uncredited, but remarkable script doctoring like Robert Towne

That sucks. I love the third film and now I see there's no continuity. Hopefully his character will be mentioned in some memorable way...
