This Sporting Life is in a very different vein from these two films (you should probably avoid Britannia Hospital as well), as are his early Free Cinema shorts, so those are worth a crack. In Celebration is a straight play adaptation, so it's got little in common with his more phantasmagoric work, and The Whales of August is different again ( e. none of the above). But bear in mind that this is coming from someone who thinks the films you hate are his best work.

"This Sporting Life" will air on Turner Classic Movies at 10pm ET Nov. 7, and be introduced by director Neil LaBute as one of his favorite movies.patrick wrote:Give This Sporting Life a chance when the Criterion comes out if you like British New Wave/Free Cinema films.
