Night and Day is fine Hong. He really gets to work out his Rohmer fixation with the Paris settings and situations (and, as a proper Rohmer tribute, there's also obligatory sidetrips to the beach), with one of its structuring jokes being how little Sung-nam actually engages with Paris (almost all of his encounters are with fellow Korean expats). The feckless protagonist is somewhat less unredeemable than many of Hong's other uberbastards, but the film is ruthless in puncturing his pretensions. One of my favourite bits is early on when the banal observations of the self-regarding voiceover are immediately repeated out loud by two walk-ons (Korean tourists, but less pretentious ones).

I wanted to give the heads up that I recently received this copy of A Tale of Cinema and it appears to be a bootleg. The jacket is a different design, printed on thick matte paper. The disk was definitely watchable, but did seem to have some compression issues. My TV is SD so I also may not be the best judge. It did look significantly weaker on an iMac's LCD at my work.

The picture shown on that page isn't the actual cover. You can see a small pic of the real thing at YesAsia. (Funnily enough, I've seen a 100% definite bootleg of this and the cover looks exactly like the one at hkDVDstore -- so if your cover doesn't look like that, you should be relieved!)

My cover does look exactly like that HK DVD store photo. I didn't realize the difference on the website at the time of ordering (sorry for the confusion). I am mildly disappointed in getting a bootleg. On the other hand, the official version is OOP and I wouldn't have been able to see the film otherwise.
