I Was Born, But... an Eclipse title?! Not. Right.
Unlike Domino, I'm thrilled about this release, and also that the "Silent Ozu" with subtitle "Family Comedies" bodes well for further "Silent Ozu" sets.

I Was Born, but i'm on Eclipse???????? WTF?
Only three? Others will not be released?

I'm not opposed to the set, I'm opposed to the timing. They've been sitting on God knows how many potential Eclipse directors/themes and by the tenth release we're already getting a repeat? It's another disappointment in a month full of them.

Domino, I'm sure there's another box ready for April. Patience (I say, more to myself).

Come on Criterion - release another Louis Malle Eclipse set (along with Criterions of Dead Presidents and From Hell It Came) and let us watch domino harvey's head explode!

As I noted, the subtitle suggests other "Ozu Silents" are in the works. Maybe "Gangster Films," or "Family Dramas" or whatever.

I hear you, but you know how many Ozu sets there will be? It's crazy.

While I would have enjoyed a fully Criterionized I Was Born, But..., my wallet is thrilled to find it in the perfectly acceptable Eclipse series. =D>

I've been waiting to see I Was Born, But... ever since I've ever heard of Yasujiro Ozu, so this month is just fine for me.
That and my thin wallet at this time. And taxes in that month. Joy!

Even Ozu lovers have to admit that it boggles the mind to see another set of his films when virtually all of Imamura, Naruse, Mizoguchi, and Oshima remain unreleased. Ozu is becoming the Eclipse Kurosawa.

In any other case I'd say we'd have a right to complain, but we're getting what is the first DVD release of Ozu's first masterpiece. We should be rejoicing.

I had the exact same thought and almost posted a similar sentiment. Just ridiculous.

Where would this leave a reissue of Good Morning? I remember a while ago there were hopes I Was Born, But... might be packaged together with the later film.

This is good!... Esp if more Eclipse Ozu Silents sets (plus AUTUMN AFTERNOON from CC itself)... Ozu obviously sells...

I wish Days of Youth had been included (and the theme adjusted appropriately), but otherwise I'm pretty happy with this.

Weird. Ten boxes, a summer-fall blackout-- and already a repeat in directors?
There a shortage of directors someplace?
I'm fine w the box, but... (in keeping w the box's titles aesthetic).

Am I the only one whose just happy that Criterion have seen fit to release silents in some form or another?
I know that two sets out of ten dedicated to the same director is a bit much, but the fact that these are silents seems pretty huge to me, considering Criterion's track record in that area. Heck, they didn't even bother releasing a silent in the Bernard set, even though doing so would have made a lot of sense.

Criterion FINALLY puts out a silent, and it's cause for complaint? Yikes....sorry, no offense, but I just don't see anything about the rare silent from Criterion that feels like a repeat of anything.....as far as I'm concerned the next 5 Eclipse sets can be all silents.....and two of them could be more Ozu!!

Nope, you're not the only one. Delighted to see some silents on the way, and I'm hoping for an official announcement of that von Sternberg silents set soon (crossing fingers).

I have all these films already, why can't Criterion release something I don't already have.
;~}
Although I want to see lots of other things coming out too -- I think people really will be enchanted by these films. Hideko Takamine fans should be especially happy -- as they get to see her at age six (and missing all her front teeth).

Excellent news, I
will hold off on the Panorama releases. I'd prefer to see the Naruse set this month since I'm guessing it may include films that don't have a release yet where all three films here already have a release.

Excellent news as well!
....on second thought, that makes me sound creepy.
