Well, Tooze knows by now that he's got to allot time for Nick to post corrected caps

Seems like another stellar release. I've not seen it, but from reading Everything Is Cinema (on Godard) it seems like its one of his best films.

FWIW, we've never had a problem with any of Gary's BD grabs. It's a different process. We're very happy with his UNE FEMME MARIÉE BD grabs, it looks like we know it looks.

I don't suppose there's any chance of a SD-DVD for BD disc exchange? :-"

<Facetious reply> Yeah, it's called Amazon Marketplace. </Facetious reply>

Sorry.

I reckon I had that coming.
Anyway, worth a shot.

Nick, will the book in the Blu be the same size as in the SD or a bit smaller to fit the case?

Same content, same number of pages (80) -- but smaller physical size. Thicker box than previous MoC BDs.

Thanks. All things considered, I think I might go for the SD and the slightly bigger book option, since it's reported to be such a nice volume.

It's literally a (very slight) x-/y-dimensional issue. The layout and pagination are about 98% identical between both volumes (the BD book and the SD book). The Blu-ray book also fixes some very minor typographical issues that slipped by in the first edition on the SD, and introduces a very slight edit of a sentence or two in the "Graphic Violence" piece.

If you have the means to play Blu-ray, I'd suggest going for that one (not to undercut the SD edition, which still looks great). You'll see Une femme mariée — and Godard's original trailer for the film — in astonishingly beautiful form.

ck.

Is the trailer on the Blu-ray disc playable on a region A player?

The trailer is 1080p, so yes!

Hmmm, yes. You'd think! My DVD's been up for a little while with no biters... I bought it on day of release, with no idea that I would end up adopting Blu-Ray quite so soon... and now the power of *WANT* brought on my the 'caps on Beaver of the Blu-Ray is starting to get too great... I haven't caved in, yet...

In which case, you might want to hang on to it. We're unlikely to repress DVD editions once we run out of the current pressing, where a BD edition exists. The DVDs might become more collectible then.

I received my BD the other day and put it in my player today to watch it and discovered that all the subtitles are not showing up on my screen. I enjected the disc, turned off the player, and then reloaded it. Again same problem... only about half the subtitles are showing up. Bits of dialog will go by without any subtitles at all. I have a Oppo BDP-83 and am wondering if the problem is the player. Has anyone else encountered this problem yet?

Well, I figured it out. It is the player. The last firmware update seems to have had a negative effect on the subtitles. I know this because I tried out "Tokyo Sonata" just now and it too is experiencing the same problem. The subtitles worked fine before the last update... so it's the Oppo. I emailed Oppo; hopefully they will fix it soon.

Problem solved...

Oppo sent me a response:
"Ensure that your Subtitle Shift is set to "0" and not "-5" under Video Setup->Display Options. If it is set to "-5", set it to "0", exit Setup and turn off the player. Turn the player back on and try a disc with subtitles. They should be in their proper orientation".

Not to get off topic but the subtitle shift is one of the best features of the Oppo BD players. I just purchased the new BDP-80 and ordered a mod chip from the UK so I'll be good to go on region locked titles.

On topic, I too concur that the transfer looks stunning in motion and the package as a whole is another home run for MoC.

I'm happy enough with the SD, but I can't decide if the content of the book is supposed to be a parody of, or an homage to, Godard.

Will this happen with all other releases with both DVD & BR editions? I.e. Mad Detective, Tokyo Sonata, For All Mankind, etc.

Off the top of my head, I would say it's likely to happen to MAD DETECTIVE and TOKYO SONATA DVD editions when the current pressings are sold out --- but perhaps not to FOR ALL MANKIND.

According to the Eureka Entertainment Facebook page, Une femme mariée will be out on dual format on Feb. 13, 2012.

If anyone is interested, Amazon says there are 11 of the original Blu-ray (not the dual) release available for about 28 bucks here.

Edit: Prices are inching up. The two vendors that are using Amazon to fulfill their orders are at $29.40 as of 7 central. They both have about 10 left.
