So is this just laziness on Lionsgate's part or have they really lost the rights?

They certainly lost the rights or had a falling out with Paramount. In addition to the Republic titles, they are also discontinuing all their other Paramount licensed product. (My Bloody Valentine, Brain Candy, Drop Zone, amongst others.) They licensed these about 2 years ago.

EDIT: Some of the Republic stuff like Monster Squad, Bound, Freeway, were probably decent sellers. I don't think they would discontinue those titles unless they had lost the rights.

That's proof enough for me. Now I can hope for a Criterion Fleischer boxset.

The always useful DVDAf (Paramount / Lionsgate).

Republic Pictures / Lionsgate

The above doesn't include some mentioned by ianungstad, like Bound and The Monster Squad, so it likely isn't entirely comprehensive.

Michael's Movie Mayhem has up 88 Republic Pictures that have been discontinued in the last few days also.

This is his complete Republic Pictures discontinued list also (the rest were discontinued at some point awhile back rather than the ones this week).

Thanks for the heads up, picked up all of the titles I'm interested in from those lists before the price gets ridic-- better $100 now than five times that if these titles don't resurface

Re: Winchester 73, just pick up the James Stewart Western Collection, which has a better transfer than the individual release. The box set is currently 50% off ($19.99) at Amazon.

All the Universal titles that went out of print are titles being reissued early next year with the 100th Anniversary packaging. Some are on blu ray but Wincherster '73 appears to only be a dvd only release. I don't know why they are bothering to discontinue the old releases instead of just adding a 100th anniversary slipcover to the existing release.

Was Designing Women ever released in a regular case?

Winchester was confirmed for Blu-ray like a year ago, but yeah that boxed set's still a good idea. And no, Designing Woman was snapper-only (and has been OOP for a while, no?)

Recently purchased For Me and My Gal on Amazon Marketplace from the keep case listing and received the snapper case (albeit without remainder) instead. This was merely a repackage, right? Were there any differences in quality or extras? If it's just a repackage, I probably won't return it since I didn't pay much for it in the first place.

(Apologies if this is the wrong thread to ask. I figured I'd ask here since both versions are OOP.)

It never was released in a keepcase, despite the Amazon art. It's not the only snapper-only title to have a deceiving Amazon pic-- Mrs Miniver comes to mind, though I'm sure there's other

I bought Mrs. Miniver direct from Amazon like a month ago and it came in a keepcase.

Huh, that's news to me. I'm pretty sure they have identical UPCs, so maybe it's just a crapshoot based on what warehouse fulfills your order then, or perhaps Amazon somehow likes Swo more than me

This forum topic at DVD Talk lists it as having been released in a keep case, plus I found a few different places (including Amazon) that list two versions -- one with a 2004 release date and one with a 2006 date. However, that list, last updated on Nov. 25 of this year, doesn't include Mrs. Miniver, so there's that.

A list which just tallied titles that are only keepcase repackaging would be much more helpful.

I'd be extremely surprised if the For Me and My Gal is anything more than a keepcase upgrade.
