Nothing to do with the cover, but is "I Am You" really the best German equivalent they could come up with for "Vice Versa"?
I got a good laugh out of the equivilant myself. I'm not even sure why they had to change it from "Vice Versa," isn't there a way to explain that expression auf Deutsch?

And Fred Savage does look like a young Elvis there.
Actually, that would be a great idea for another thread: asinine film title translations.
The French title of "Nightmare Before Christmas" is "The Strange Christmas of Mr. Jack."

And the portuguese title is "The Strange World of Jack". And that thread would be a great idea. Portugal seems to have a sick pleasure in translating film titles, so yeah, I would be happy to contribute!

what is creepier is how bad that film truly is, I say the outside fits the inside of that package.

I couldn't agree more...oh wait, you're talking about the cover and not the film itself, aren't you?

I loved Epidemic and thought the cover was suitably disturbing.

There's aDvd floating around here of a recent Russian film entitled Garpastum. The name refers to some ancient Roman ball game, a sort of precursor to modern football. The film itself set on the eve of WWI, and involves 4 friends in love with football.

The cover at issue is a tight close up of a brown leather WWI-era football. But really it just look like a smudge of brown paint or mud with perhaps a piece of straw running thru it. The tight close up is such that you cannot tell what the hell it is supposed to be. I was only able to guess it was a piece of a ball after reading the description on back.

I realize that this is much less effective without a picture, but I cannot find the poster/dvd cover anywhere on the internet.

As for a terrible foreign translation of a film title:
Born into Brothels is titled Camera Kids in its MK2 incarnation. So the title morphs from hard-hitting and wrenching to cute and uplifting. Bejeebers.

I think it would be a good idea to start a thread devoted to best Dvd covers. Sort of a positive companion piece to this thread, which might be instructive as to what is visually appealing and works as a Dvd cover. Yesterday I had a best cover nominee, but now it has slipped my mind. Which is my excuse for not actually starting such a thread.

I think some folks are way too anxious to throw stuff up on this thread. Some of the recent entries arent anywhere near the kind of obvious abominations we all so desperately love to hate.

Aishirg, good job. I suppose that's it, though in my mind it was an even tighter close-up and muddier looking. Nevertheless, I doubt that that cover is going to get anyone racing to the checkout line for a movie with a strange name.
[Garpastum. Sounds like a pasttime according to Garp]

manic, that thread is more about deluxe addition packaging. I was simply thinking of a thread devoted to well-designed and visually appealing Dvd covers. Next time I spot a deserving candidate, I'll try to gear up a thread.

So reclining in a hammock and reading a book is considered "wild!" in France?
